• It helps in an ongoing organizational process of using available knowledge to


prioritize efforts, effectively allocate resources, align shareholders, and
employees on organization’s goals.
• Since its an ongoing process when we run into unanticipated opportunities and
threats, we have to respond. Strategies develop and adjust through this process.
• It requires time, effort, and continual reassessment.
DEFINITION OF STRATEGIC

disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide
what an organization is, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future.
• Strategic planning is also a management tool for several key purposes: to help an organization do a better
job, to focus its energy, to ensure that members are working toward the same goals and to assess and adjust
its direction in response to an ever changing environment.
• It provides the master plan an organization uses to achieve its aims. It charts the direction and goals of the
entire organization and all aspects of its operation.

The main purpose of strategic planning is:

 To set clearly defined goals for the growth and success of

your organization and achieve them with the help of an

effective strategic plan.

 It establishes a connection between your organization’s

mission, its long-term vision and the established plan..

 It involves stepping back from your day-to-day operations

and asking where your business is headed and what its

priorities should be.

The focus of this model is to assure alignment between the


company’s mission and its resources. It can be useful to
business that wants to learn why their goals are not achieving
the result expected or want to refine their goals.

• Strategic planning is a management by coming up with plans to be implemented in the near future.
Strategic management is a management by results.
• Strategic planning is an analytical process, while strategic management is an action-oriented process.
• A future-oriented activity which ascertains the organizational strategy and used to set priorities, is
called strategic planning. On the other hand, strategic management is decisions taken by the top
managers in relation to the creation and implementation of strategies to achieve organizational goals.
• Strategic planning focuses on making optimal strategic decisions, while strategic management is
about producing results such as, new products or new technologies.
• Strategic planning activity uses management by
plans, whereas strategic management process uses
management by results.
