VIRTUAL

REALITY

Group 2
What is Virtual Reality (VR)?
√ Refers to a computer- generated simulation in
which a person can interact within an artificial
three-dimensional (3D) environment using
electronic devices such as special goggles with
a screen, gloves, headphones, etc. fitted with
sensors.
EXAMPLE OF VR:
 3D Movie using special 3D glasses

 VR headsets
PURPOSE OF VR:

√ Used to create immersive experiences that can

help educate and even entertain consumers.
√ It is applied in variety of industries, such as
medicine, architecture, military, and etc.
TYPES OF VR:

√ FULLY-IMMERSIVE SIMULATIONS

 used for gaming and other entertainment

purposes in VR arcades or even in your home.

 Give users the most realistic experience possible,

complete with sight and sound.
TYPES OF VR:

 SEMI-IMMERSIVE SIMULATIONS
 Provide users with a partially virtual environment
to interact with.
 Used for educational and training purposes.

EXAMPLE:
 The instrument in front of the pilot are real and
windows are screen displaying virtual content
TYPES OF VR:

√ NON-IMMERSIVE SIMULATIONS

 it is often forgotten as an actual type of VR

because it is very common in our everyday lives.

EXAMPLE:
 Average video game
SOME USES OF VR:
√ VR IN MILITARY

 Military uses it for flight simulations, battlefield

simulations, medic training, vehicle simulation and
virtual boot camp, and etc.
 VR can safely replicate dangerous training situations
to prepare and train soldiers, without putting them at
risk until they are ready for combat.
SOME USES OF VR:

√ VR IN SPORT
 Can be used by coaches and players to train more
efficiently across a range of sports, and helps to
measure athletic performance and analyse technique.
 May also help those who cannot afford to spend
money on attending live sports events to feel
included as they can enjoy the same experience
remotely, either for free or at a lesser cost.
SOME USES OF VR:
√ VR IN MENTAL HEALTH
 VR technology used for treating post-traumatic
stress.
 Using VR exposure, a person enters a re-enactment of
a traumatic event in an attempt to come to terms with
the event and heal.
EXAMPLE:
 Treat anxiety, phobia and depression
SOME USES OF VR:
√ VR IN MEDICAL TRAINING

 Medical and dental students uses VR to practice

surgeries and procedures to eliminate inflicting harm
or making mistake while practicing on real patients.
 VR improves quality of students training and
optimise costs.
SOME USES OF VR:
√ VR IN EDUCATION

 Not only for military or medical field but VR also

adopted by schools in education for teaching and
learning situation.
 Can be taken also for virtual field trips.
 Beneficial for students with special needs, such as
autism.
SOME USES OF VR:
√ VR IN FASHION

 Virtual simulations of store environments can be

extremely useful for retailers to design their signage
and product display without fully committing to the
build like in the real world.
 Allows also customers to try on clothes virtually.
