Module: Creation and Production. AAD4004


Negotiated Project.
Lecture 1 Project Briefing
Module duration: 04 /11 //21 to 03 //02 //22 
This Project provides you with the opportunity for
developing a creative practice. Through a Negotiated
project proposal, you will independently initiate your
working practice where you will adopt a resourceful
approach to the practical engagement with materials,
ideas, research, design development and production.
Specific areas of study will include:
-You will write up your Negotiated design brief outlining your
aims, theme or concept and the materials and envisioned
outcomes. 
-You will independently develop your creative practice.
-Your project will target research and investigate relevant art,
design and craft contexts through written and visual means to
develop creative ideas (Other modules delivering workshops
and theoretical lectures will support your practice). 
-You will effectively record plan and manage your developing
practice through a physical sketchbook and digital blog
-Your personal creative direction will explore ideas, materials
and technology through the making and manufacture of final
products.
You have concluded on project Shape Form and Balance where
you explored numerous practical and theoretical pathways.
Reflect upon this learning experience considering what methods,
techniques and skills, ideas, contexts and concepts you see as
most appropriate to develop a negotiated and independently
driven project.
Task 1.
Initially you will write a loose and short proposal that outlines your
present aims which could including a theme/ idea and medias and
reference sources.

Be aware that your project will be flexible to change as your work


develops and new workshops introduce you to new materials and
technologies. Therefore, you will update your project proposal as
and when practice develops.

Evidence for Formative assessment: Portfolio and Presentation:

Formative Portfolio requirements:


A collection of visual and written work that pertains to your Negotiated Project.
Outcomes will include:
A rough project proposal (100 words)
Visual and written sketch book work A3
Visual and written blog entries
Experimental outcomes.
 
Formative Presentation requirements:
Present a Power point presentation.
Duration 8 minutes maximum
Maximum Slides 8
(there will be sessions on how to make and present a PowerPoint presentation).
Selection of work could inc: successful, rewarding and important outcomes.
Artists references, Resource materials e.g. objects, places or things that inspire
you, drawings or preparatory work from sketchbooks, blog entries, visual diaries
etc. You should present running commentary that contextualises and reflects
upon the following: Your aims, media you are using, what developments has
occurred and future plans.
Project Guide.

The Negotiated Project allows
and expect you to use appropriate and relevant information from
the courses other Modules: Culture and Meaning and Realisation:
Digital, Materials, Making.  

It is envisaged that full engagement with these modules should


support you with transferable and progressive skills to develop an
explorative and experimental approach and practice in
the Negotiated Project.

Resource material: 
To initiate your module Creation and Production and your
Negotiated Project collect a mass of reference material. This broad range
of material could be from primary and secondary sources that pertains to
the themes meaning and definition. The relevance of this material is that
it should inspire and motivate a board range of creative directions that
you can explore to develop your work. 
Primary sources could include: Objects, personal, found or salvage.  
Photographs taken of experiences, events, happenings and sites.   
Drawings: sketches or studies, new and old. 
Use of old personal art forms and works. 
Use of memory or experiences. (these will need to be catalogues and
written about to objectify their meaning and use) 
Secondary sources could be taken from: books, journals, galleries,
museums, internet sources (if you are using websites be thoughtful
of sites, explore authentic sites and do not use immediate sites that your
search engine initially presents). Use a wide range of artists, movements
and philosophical theories. 
All reference source data will need to be recorded in Harvard
referencing system and presented in a bibliography at the back of your
sketchbook and blog. 
Research:  
All reference and research material must be documented visually and
with written commentary in your sketchbook/s and blog journal. 

Modules Culture and Meaning and Realisation: Digital, Materials,


Making, should be used to enhance, compliment and support your
developing Negotiated Project. 

You should use the appropriate and relevant theoretical components


of these modules to support your projects aims.

These could include your interests in art contexts in social,


cultural, Political concepts, discourses, artists and movements.

Exploration, Making and Outcomes:  
 
Module Creation and Production and the Negotiated brief should be
used to enhance, compliment and support your developing Practice.  
The project aims and encourages you to openly explore and
experiment with materials and processes and in doing so you will start
an investigation and enquiry into technical and innovative
practice. These could be hand and digital skills using drawings,
sketches, photo, paintings, print, 3 d forms, found objects, film, video,
projection or sound audio format.

To enhance this skill of analysis critiquing of work will be a regular


session activity. These will take the form of self-reflective accounts,
peer critique, group critique, tutorial and presentations

Tutorial: 
 
Tutor support will be provided throughout your project, through formal
lectures, seminars, as well as informal feedback and guidance during
workshops and studio sessions. It is essential that you receive and seek
tutorial feedback on the progression of your work so discussion can
monitor progress and guide development.

Assessment: 
 
Formative assessment is graded, written or verbal feedback that is given
to improve performance and work before Summative assessment.
Summative Assessment is a final grade and has written feedback on
work and performance. 
 
Negotiated Project will be assessed through formative and summative
method.

Date of Summative Assessment submission: Thursday 03/02/2200 


Evidence for Summative assessment: 
Completion of project and Portfolio:
60%  
and Presentation: 40% 
Portfolio requirements: 
Example of a minimum expectation of work for a 10 week project. 
There should be a minimum expectation of work output for projects
operating at Level 4 (these are indicated below). 
Outcomes will include a minimum:  
Project proposal. 100-200 words 
Visual and written sketch book work 40 pages A3,  
and 20 blog entries. 
Written content 2000 wdrs minimum.  
Experimental outcomes: Minimum of 3  
And 1 or more final Outcomes. 
Presentation requirements: 
Present a Power point presentation.  
Duration 5 to 10 minutes maximum  
Maximum Slides 10
