Simple Tense
Simple tense is a category of verb tense used to express facts or
habitual activities. It covers the simple present tense, the simple
past tense, and the simple future tense.

Simple Present Nominal
Talking about things, personalities, and situations in the present time.
(Without action)

Subject + To-Be (is/am/are) + Adjective/Noun/Adverb of Place/Time

Positive: Negative:

Kejadian yang sedang berlangsung ketika dia sedang
berbicara.
To-Be (am/is/are) + Verb-ing

bahasa Inggris. = What are you doing, Antoni? I am studying
English.

2. Kami sedang belajar bahasa sunda = We are studying Sundanese.

3. Bu Sulis sedang mengajar Sosiologi = Bu Sulis is teaching

Simple Present Verbal
Talking about habits, routines, timetable and permanent situations.
(With action)

Subject (I / You / They / We) + Verb-1


Examples:
1. They walk to school every morning.
2. I don’t work every night. You’re right! I

Examples:
1. The sun sets in the west.

P.s. If there’s already does/doesn’t in the sentence, Verb-1 + S is no longer needed. Vice versa.

Talking about an action that either happened at an indefinite time in the past or began in the
past and continued to the present time.

Tense
The Timeline of Past Perfect Tense

He passed the exam because he had studied hard = after studying hard, he passed the
exam.
Past Perfect
Talking about the action we did before we did another action in the past.

Subject + Had + Verb-3


Positive:
1. I had already read that book before she told me to.
2. When I had had breakfast, I brushed my teeth.
3. My dog had just finished eating her food when my sister gave
her treats.

Negative:
4. She hadn’t wanted to do it until I persuaded her.
5. My brother said he hadn’t gotten any idea for his project.
This tense must consist of two events. No matter which event mentioned first, because the tense
will make it clear which one happened first.
