 History of Sandals
 The first sandals created by humans came from Egypt. The sandals were of wood and
papyrus leaves. To print the sole of the sandals, they print the shape of foot on the
beach sand.
 The secod generation of sandals belonged to the Greeks. Sandals for the Greeks also
reflected the status and social class of the wearer.
 The third generation of sandals were Roman which were adopted and adapted from
the Greek sandals type. Roman sandals is the use of leather,straps wrapped around
the calves and thick leather soles. Roman women generally wore sandals made of
cloth
 Sandals Material
 The main material for the sole of sandals is natural rubber or rubber. This material
is made from the sap of rubber tree.
 Microtalc filter, Carbon black, Anti ozone, Zinc oxide are materials used in rubber
compound manufacturing process, maturation/vulcanization process, and the
process of making finished products. Natural rubber is considered a polymer of
Polysoprene ( C5H8).
 Sandals Making Process
1. The Process of Making Embossing ( Embossed )
The embossing process consists of 3 machines, namely; embossing machine, film plate
or mold, and oven. Prepare a rubber sheet that will be given a pattern/motif. Heat the
film plate or mold for 5 minutes using the oven. Place the rubber on the heated film
plate.

2. Determination of Sandals ( Sizing of Sandals )
Prepare a sponge knife on the top surface of the sandals or rubber ( with the eyelet-
shaped blade) and pattern the knife according to size you want. Then prepare a sheet
of plain sponge that will be used on the top of the sandals that will be perfoated and
attach a rope to the hole.

3. Screen Printing
Sponges that have been cut to determine the size of sandals are screened with the
desired pattern/motif.
4. Slipper Layer Joining/Gluing
Each of the layers that make up the sandals (top,middles,and bottom layers) that
have been treated, are then put together using yellow glue/special glue for spons (ebon)
and the help of a sponge press machine.

5. Finishing Sandals
In the final /finishing stage, you need a grinding machine to smooth the edges on
the edges of the sandals, the results of which may be less than optimal, or the glue
marks that are visible on the outland sandals, make sure that the sandals are
marketable.

6. Slipper Strap Installation
Installation of sandal straps is done manually, namely with the help of a rope that is
pulled on a stationary medium.

Leather sandals produced by Tasikmalaya craftsman are generally leather sandals, a
kind of tarumpah sandal. The ingredients are almost the same as the materials used in
tarumpah, the upper and the base (tatak) use leather as well. In addition to these
materials, the bottom sole uses the usual printed rubber sole, there is also a raw rubber
sole.

Amir Djohan is the founder of PT. Sinar Jaya Prakarsa, a factory who headquarters
are located at Jalan Kamal Raya No.1 RT/RW 01/09, Tegal Alur, Kalideres, DKI. The
factory is Swallow sandal producer, a very popular sandals among Indonesians. Amir
Djohan esthabilished his factory on 28 February 1987 ( until now ) with 500 employess
in it ( now more than 2000 employess ), making swallows with various type.
 Flip-Flops Sandal ( Most Populary Indonesian Sandal )
Flip-flops sandals are one of the most popular sandals in Indonesia. The habit of
wearing flip-flops even passed down from generation to generation. The reason being;
flip-flops are comfortable to use, can be use in almost all condisitions, and are easy to
find anywhere.
