INTRODUCTION

In the United Arab Emirates, Jazirat Al Hamra (Red Island) is one of the last traditional town left standing. There was a little
island once, but it has since been turned into a long, narrow peninsula that backs into the port and further down. There have
been new developments. Trade in pearls and maritime goods sustained its inhabitants. It is located in a region with abundant
oil and gas, this former settlement was abandoned forty years ago, prior to discovery of the latter. That led to modernization
of the town. Tourists, archaeologists, and photographers are all interested in exploring this abandoned village.
HISTORY

There were two hundred people living on the island by 1830, primarily engaged in pearl
fishing. The island was a part of Sharjah. He was a signatory to the original 1820 treaty
between the Trucial States and the British following the 1819 British expedition against Ras
Al Khaimah. 'Jourat Al Kamra' was the name of the sheikhdom in the treaty. As it was
mostly settled by members of the Zaab tribe some five hundred houses in the twentieth
century, the town has also been called Jazirah Al Zaab. There were two parts to the island,
the small northern quarter of Umm Awaimir, and the southern Manakh. There were no
palm groves on the island at the time, but there were groves at Khatt maintained by the
tribe. Till the Pearl Market crashed in the late 1920s, Jazirah Al Hamrah maintained a fleet
of some twenty five pearling boats that were the tribe's main source of income. The
agreement was signed by Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad Al Qasimi of Sharjah and Sheikh
Sultan bin Salim Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah in 1914. As part of Ras Al Khaimah, the
town was often involved in disputes with its ruler. A dispute arose in 1968 between Sheikh
Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah which led to the tribe accepting a move
to Abu Dhabi from Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. A whole village with thousands of
residents was left behind in this movement.
A HAUNTED VILLAGE

Several residents have claimed that very quiet and ghostly village nearby the beach is haunted by jinns. About half of the people
claim to have heard strange noises or disembodied voices. During daylight locals stay away from the place, as the locals tell
scary stories about the jinns that haunt the area. They also tell stories about those unfortunate souls that met them and became
insane when they were exposed to them. The haunted village has obviously caused a lot of visitors to feel uneasy. Many claim
that this haunted ghost town is filled with paranormal activities, such as handprints appearing on walls and pillars, and they even
saw handprints on ruined walls.
BUILDINGS

Despite some crumbling buildings and inferior repair work, the old picture of life is left intact. Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE all
have unique characteristics in this area. There is a fortress, several mosques, and a variety of houses, all typical of a traditional
town. Throughout the Arabian Gulf region, coral stone is frequently used in the construction of houses. Wind towers made of
mud and brick are also visible, designed to direct even the smallest breeze off the Gulf into the houses. A charming mosque can
be found at the end of the coastal street complete with bright blue painted wooden doors around two hundred fifty meters away
from the wind-tower house. This mosque is unique because of its minaret. From the conical roof of this coral block construction
we can see a spiral staircase leading to windows where call to prayer was sung - very different from the tall, slender concrete
minarets of other mosques. Between the wind-tower house and the mosque lay the Souq town, full of shops and stands. They are
still visible today.
REVIEWS ALL OVER THE WORLD

There are still buildings standing firmly on this yellow land, even after more than two
centuries of wind and rain. Few people come here because of the desert climate, so
building materials have not been destroyed. Dirt houses are a bit like Colosseums.
Their doors and windows are all long sleeves, with a circle above. Originally
constructed as coral blocks. This monument pays homage to rural life before the
advent of oil. It is called Ghost City because of its ruined walls and deserted people.
Ancient fishing communities were discovered seven thousand years ago in Jazirat Al
Hamra by archaeologists in the UAE. The village of Jazirat Al Hamra relies on fishing.
Many people made their fortunes from oil after the United Arab Emirates was
established in 1971. Villages in Jazirat Al Hamra have a relatively dry climate.

CONCLUSION

This village is abandoned because, there is still a question mark whether the village is really
haunted or is it just a rumour. This is very peculiar. What is happening in there? Are there any
jinns? How come this can happen only in that particular place? Why is that place haunted?
There are many more questions arising. But even one of them is not answered.

REMARKS

Rithvika.R : I think the village is haunted and something is mysterious over there.

Sivavibulan.A.T : I think that, the people living there are not willing to socialize with other
people. So, they are deceiving others into thinking there are jinns.

Senthurvel.P.A : I think that, some groups of terrorists might be tricking the people to hide
there because, that is believed as a haunted village.

Varsha.S : According to me, the village became a ghost town just because, people left the
village. But, I don’t think the village is haunted.

Sanmiga.A : I think the ghost stories are just rumors. But, the incidents happened there are
questionable.

Tarun Vendhan.H : I believe in ghosts. So, I think the village is haunted.

Aswath Dhirran.C.S : I think that people are just imagining that there are jinns, due to some
weird factors of the village. But, in reality, there are no jinns.
