History of Adult Literacy Providers
Meetings

 A conversation was started by Old Stone Foundation in Spring 2010

when Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) announced it
would no provide Adult Education. Old Stone wanted to find a
partner to make sure ABLE services could continue at their site.
 The state of Ohio commissioned ABLE providers in Cuyahoga
County to provide services previously through CMSD. The Old Stone
meetings developed into a brainstorm session of what adult literacy
providers could do together through collaboration.
 The group decided to continue to meet under the coordination of The
Literacy Cooperative. They decided their first priority would be to
find a common portal for referrals of end users & volunteers, and
centralized tutor training/certification.
Organizational Commitment

 Four levels of organizational commitment:

– Utilizing First Call for Help and/or BVU.
– Participate in needs assessment for tutor training.
– Individual representation on the workgroup for
planning a tutor training collaboration.
– Participation in meetings with all NEO Adult literacy
providers for future collaboration in initiatives.
