PROBLEMS OF ELDERLY

DEFINITION OF AGING
• Aging is a natural process which inevitably occurs in a
human life cycle
• Demographic Profile-The population of elderly people has
been increasing over the years as per UNESCO estimates,
the number of aged(60+) was likely to be 590 million in
2005 and will be doubled by 2025, where the world will
have more elderly than young people and will even grow
more by 2050
• Normally, in total population, males outcome females, but
in elderly, female population outnumbers the male
population
REASONS FOR INCREASE IN THE AGED

• Declining fertility
• Declining mortality rate
• Increased life expectancy due to adequate
health care facilities
• Better health consciousness
• Improved nutrition
• Better sanitation
• Advancement in health technology
