Science
Investigatory
Project

-      an investigation about a

scientific problem (question)
-     a problem-solving process
using the scientific method
Why are science projects important?

Science experiments promote discovery and

learning. Discovering new ideas is an integral part
of learning science. It is something that teachers
can’t give to students. Students themselves have
to discover new ideas and concepts during their
search for knowledge.

BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
• Critical part because it contains some parts of the
subject matter in the accompanying chapter 2 and 3.
• On of the key aspects you need to get right when
you are writing a research paper
• Key to introducing your readers to the topic of your
research.
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
1. What is the study all about?
a. what are the problems/phenomena that led you to
study?
b. What are the pieces of evidence that this
problem/phenomenon exists?
(Global,Regional/ASEAAN, local)
c. Are there statistical data, reports, studies that
confirm the existence or prevalence of this?
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
2. What is known about the topic? (Summarized
previous studies/literatures)
3. Why the purpose of the study important?
4. What is the unique contribution of this study to the
body of knowledge?
•Is a concise description of
the issue that needs to be
addressed by the
researchers.
STATEMEN
T OF THE
•It is used to give the
PROBLEM researchers what to focus
on at the beginning of the
project, to keep them
focused and validate the
effort done in the
experimentation stage
It should be of great interest to you.

It should have practical value to you.

What are the
characteristics It should not be over researched.
of a good
problem?  It should be within your experience.

It can be finished within an allotted time.

It should not carry legal or moral impediments

Statement of the Problem
A tentative, testable answer to a scientific question.
Educated guess
Must be testable
Hypothesis Do experiment to determine whether or not the
hypothesis is right.
The null hypothesis
is a typical statistical theory
which suggests that no

statements reflect your
independent and dependent
variables.
• If I add fertilizer to the soil, then the tomato
plants will grow tall.
• The cat show no preference for the foo based
on shape
• The age has no effect on musical ability
• If I add salt to water, then it will take longer to
freeze
• The flower has significant response to the
sunlight.
Written statement that explains
why your research was needed.
it’s a justification of the
importance of your work and

the Study field,It’s contribution to new
knowledge and how others will
benefit from it.
Who benefits from your
research

Study population and timeframe.
limitations of a study are the
factors and variables not to be
included in the investigation
Alphabetical lists of important
terms or acronyms that you
define, particularly ambiguous
Definition of terms or those used in a special
Terms way.
Include terms that are not
widely known outside of your
discipline
