Skill 19: Invert The

Subject and Verb with

Comparisons
Merliyani Putri Anggraini
Comparative Degree
Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects they modify
(larger, smaller, faster, higher). They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared.

Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun

(object).

The second item of comparison can be omitted if it is clear from the context.
Invert The Subject and Verb with
Comparisons
 An inverted subject and verb may also occur after a comparison. The
inversion of a subject and verb after a comparison is optional, rather than
required, and it is a rather formal structure. There have been a number of
inverted comparisons on recent TOEFL tests, so would you be familiar with
this structure.
Let’s take a look to the example!
