THE GROWTH OF INTERNET


• Historically, the INTERNET , or commonly known as the NET, has

been around since 1969 as means of computer communication of the

US DEFENSE DEPARTMENT.

• A year after, other countries recognized its convenience and

advantages.
THE RISE OF SEARCH ENGINES

Getting of information easily would not be possible without the internet

engines. A search engine, as defined- IS A COMPUTER PROGRAM

THAT IS USED TO LOOK INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET.


• In 2015, a website called TOP WORLD FACT named

the TOP 10 search engines in the world. Among them

are the following sites:


Google

• GOOGLE was named as the best search engine. Originally, it was just a
college project by LARRY PAGE and SERGEY BRIN when they
studied in STANFORD UNIVERSITY. Hence, no one can contest how
far this website has reached.
Yahoo

• Second on the list is YAHOO, founded in 1994 by DAVID FILO and

JERRY YANG. It was initially created as a directory of websites, but

later became a known search engine that started to offer other services

like news portal, shopping centers, a mail box, horoscope, and others.
Bing

• Created by Microsoft in 2009, BING is one of the

most established search engines since it is also

powered by YAHOO search.


EVALUATING INTERNET SOURCES
AUTHORITY

AUTHORITY

Know if the website page as an author. It has to be kept in mind, that looking for

one might not be usual. In the event, you should always look for the credibility of

the author.
COVERAGE
• It is important to see if the information is able to cover the necessary
information for the researcher. If needed, the coverage is appropriate,
the researcher also look or check if the information is depth- is enough
properly answers the questions.
• The uniqueness of the information must be checked, otherwise looking
for the other websites related to such can help validate the information.
OBJECTIVITY

• Objectivity, in order to get accurate information, it is important

to analyse the stand of the author.


ACCURACY

• Accuracy pertains to the technicalities of the

page. It should be free from errors, updated, and

preferably edited.
CURRENCY

• Some information constantly updated because of possible changes.

If this happens, the only way a researcher can check is the date

reflected on the page. It is important to look at the latest update,

and likewise the currency of links provided on that page as well.

interpreted, or evaluated yet. These are raw, freshly
coming for a discovery, a new study and others.

• ARTIFACTS- coins, plant, specimen, fossils, furniture, tools,
clothing
• AUDIO RECORDING- recording of radio programs
• DIARY- personal experience
• INTERNET COMMUNICATION- e-mail conversation
• INTERVIEWS- may be through oral histories, telephone, e-
mail
• LETTERS- may be a snail mail or e-mail
• PHOTOGRAPHS-

• VIDEO RECORDINGS- television programs
• WORKS OF ARTS, ARCHITECTURE, LITERATURE, and

sources. Inclined to commentaries and discussions about
primary sources, and therefore, not considered evidences.
