Introduction of Industry
PHARMACEUTICAL:

The pharmaceutical industry discovers, develops,

produces, and markets drugs or pharmaceutical
drugs for use as medications to be administered
(or self-administered) to patients. Pharmaceutical
companies may deal in generic
or bran medications and medical devices. They are
subject to a variety of laws and regulations that
govern the patenting, testing, safety, efficacy
and marketing of drugs. 

Zydus cadila is one of the oldest players in the Indian formulations market and has
gone onto become a prominent pharmaceutical manufacturer in India. Besides
continuously improving its market presence and market share, the group has also
expanded its portfolio by entering newer therapeutic areas . The group has been
launching new products with the first mover advantage and has a strong presence in
both acute and chronic therapies.
 Reactor principle in Pharma

 A reactor is a process vessel design to add chemicals and conduct

chemical reactions. The chemical reactor consists of different parts
Chemical reactors are designed to give maximum yield in a
chemical reaction.

Batch reactor

 A batch reactor is the simplest type of reactor vessels use for chemical
or industrial processes. A typical batch reactor consists of a tank
where chemical reactions occur. These tanks also have an agitator and
an internal heating or cooling system.
 A batch reactor is commonly used in steel, stainless steel, glass or
exotic alloy production.
1.SSR:
SS reactors are durable and performs efficiently for the longer period
of time. SS reactors are generally jacketed or having limpet coil for
cooling / heating purposes and mounted with different types of
agitators such as propeller, Anchor, Turbine etc.

2.GLASS LINED REACTOR:

GLR are special reactors used in pharmaceutical industry where normal
SSR can not be use for desired operations.
In the chemical and pharmaceutical sector, a glass lined reactor is used
given their compatibility with a wide range of chemicals.. The reactor can
be pressurized and operate in a range of temperatures.

 Jackets :
1. Open jacket : Open jacket is a cylindrical layer over the
reactor through which heating or cooling operations be
Performed.

2. Half pipe coil jackets (limpet jacket):

The half coil jacket is made by welding a half pipe around the
outside of the vessel to create a semi circular flow channel. The
heat transfer fluid passes through the channel in a plug flow
fashion.

3. Dimple Jackets:
Dimpled jackets allow for large heating and cooling transfer
areas. These jackets feature a layer of thin-gauge metal that is
plug or spot welded to the vessel shell in a regular pattern. ...
Dimple jackets offer distinct advantages over other designs.
4. Internal coils:
• The latter arrangement may be referred to as "limpet coils"
whereas the former is usually termed "coil in tank".

• Tank coils are not generally used for the continuous heating or
cooling of a flowing stream, but are usually applied in the
heating or cooling of a liquid contained in a tank on a batch
basis. The flow of heat into or out of the liquid, involves
unsteady or transient heat transfer.
 Dryers
• 1. C.F : An industrial centrifuge is
equipment that separates fluid or particles
using centrifugal force Centrifugation is one
of the most important and widely applied
research techniques in biochemistry, cellular and
molecular biology, evaluation of suspensions and
emulsions in pharmacy and in medicine.

2.ANFD :
• Agitated Nutsche Filter with drying is a closed
vessel special designed
to separate solid and liquid by filtration
under pressure or vacuum.

• Agitated Nutsche Filters and dryer are

extensively used in Chemical,
Herbal, Pharma , agro chemical and the
food industry.
3. Sparkler filter:
The main operation of sparkler filter press
is to filter the impure liquid. The filter is
manufactured with two options viz. deep
plate for high percentage of cake holding
capacity & shallow plate for small
percentage of cake capacity.

4. VTD :
Vacuum drying is the mass transfer
operation in which the moisture present in
a substance, usually a wet solid, is
removed by means of creating a vacuum.

In chemical processing industries like food

processing, pharmacology, agriculture, and
textiles, drying is an essential unit
operation to remove moisture.
 Boiler

• A Boiler is a closed vessel in which water or other suitable

liquid is heated to generate steam or vapour . The
steam/vapour is then exited and is used for various purposes
like heating applications (water heating, central heating),
boiler based power generation or even for cooking and other
purposes which could be domestic or industrial.

• It basically follows the concept of a pressure cooker but in a

bigger way. The boiler concept is used across places from
domestic purposes to industrial activities. The fluid is
generally incorporated into a system and it works to provide
steam through connecting combustion products and the
water.
