• IndiGo is the largest domestic airline and the most pocket-
friendly airline of India headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana,
India. It is the largest airline in India by passenger’s carried

August 2020. The airline operates 1,500 flights every day to
87 destinations – 63 domestic and 24 international.
• The airline was founded as a private company by Rahul
Bhatia of Interglobe Enterprises and Rakesh Gangwal in 2006.
It took delivery of its first aircraft in July 2006 and
commenced operations a month later. The airline became the
largest Indian carrier by passenger market share in2012. The
company went public in November 2015.

o Short-haul & point to point route structure, a common fleet with single class seat configuration, and
high employee productivity.
o Lower aircraft acquisition costs achieved through bulk purchase strategy. Last year in October 2019,
it placed an order for 300 A320 Airbus aircraft, making it one of the largest aircraft orders with a
single airline operator.
o Lower maintenance cost due to newer and single type aircraft strategy

The whole project concludes that Indigo airline is an established airline that has set an
example and has been an inspiration and equally competitive to all the other airlines. The
airlines have huge potential in the Indian market many players are entering the market
targeting a price-sensitive segment. Indigo airline has successfully implemented the low-
cost strategy with its value-added services but still, it has the potential to capture more
market if it can internationally expand its services.
