Renewable Energy and the

Environment

By:Cynthia Griffin
Importance of the Environment

● Sustains us
○ Needed for resources
○ Needed for survival
● Allows our species to grow and prosper
○ Evolution
● There is only one Earth
○ Finite resources
○ Can’t replace this planet with a new one
Pollution

● Environmental damage
○ Air pollution, deforestation,
extinct animals, rising
temperatures, scarce
resources, etc.
● CO2 emissions
○ Fossil fuel
● Global Warming
Fossil Fuel

Upsides:

● Relatively simple to use

● Already has an established system

Downsides:

● Greenhouse gas emissions

● Environmental damage from extraction
● Finite resource
○ Expenses will increase
Nurdaulet Kalassov

“Application of Integrated Membrane Bioreactors in Renewable Energy Industry”

● Explores the use of bioreactors to create a sustainable energy alternative

○ Bioethanol
○ Biodiesel
○ Methane
○ Biohydrogen
● Negative effects of fossil fuels
○ petroleum
○ Diesel
○ Natural gas
○ Coal
Bioreactors

Benefits:

● Fast energy transfer

● Highly reliable
● Made from sustainable resources: agriculture, municipal
and forestry waste
● Will eventually be needed anyway

Downfalls

● Membrane fouling
● High cost
● Concentration polarization
● Complicated process
Conclusion

● Fossil fuels have damaged the

environment
● Sustainable energy is needed
● It is a tough but necessary movement
