MATERIAL PREPARATION & TESTING

1. Lime • Hydraulic Lime (75%-80% purity) has been Chakki
brought from Bagalkot (Karnataka)
• Lime has been stored in air tight bags and packed
with gunny bags
• A mechanised lime chakki has been installed in
the western yard of the site Lime

• Lime is filled in a tank for at least 10-15days
• Slaked lime is then ground in the chakki with
sand (1:3; 1:4) for 30min-360min(6hrs) Slaking Tank
depending upon the type of mortar (course or
fine)
• The mortar is then tested for its plasticity by
checking if it’s sticky i.e. the mortar when thrown on
the surface, it should hold on to the surface and not
fall off.

2. Brick and sand • Old damaged bricks removed from the building,
have been broken to smaller pieces and reused as
brick bats for waterproofing in the building
• The river sand has been brought to site from
Hyderabad. The sand was tested for its purity by
keeping some of the sand in a small tumbler filled
with water. According to the test, there was a
very little amount of impurities (mud, salt, etc.) in the
sand

3. Granite stone blocks Granite stone blocks (50mmx150mmx1000mm) for


crack stitching, have been brought from Anegundi
(Karnataka).
