Who do we appreciate?!
_____, _____, YAAAY _____!

(Chosen student runs around the

circle giving high fives to each
student until they get back to their
spot). Repeat until all students
have been greeted.
• How does the greeting set a positive
tone and provide a sense of recognition?
Who do we appreciate sets a positive
tone for the class by having a positive and
uplifting task welcome by each classmate.
A sense of recognition is provided in
which they need to be able to identify the
tune of the chant and keep in tune with
the others to welcome each child to class
for the day.
• How does the greeting help children
learn names and practice hospitality?
Children will learn names through
recognition of faces upon the name being
called for each round of who do we
appreciate. Hospitality is taken into sense
by actively participating and being polite
to each student when it is their turn for
recognition.
• How does the teacher manage behavior
during the greeting? The teacher can
manage behavior during the greeting by
actively monitoring the activity and
participating themselves. They can follow
it up with a positive reinforcement for
each student who followed directions
appropriately.
Goal Setting
• I have a talking wand
and I want to pass it to
each of my friends.
• When it is your turn, I
would like for you to
name one goal you have
set for your future rather
it be 2 months from now
or when you are older.
(Ex: get all As on my
report card this 9 weeks.)
1. What social skills are sharers
practicing? The sharers are practicing
open communication skills among their
classmates. They are actively sharing a
goal for their future without judgement
and hypocrisy.
2. How does this sharing set a
positive tone for learning? This
activity sets a positive tone in a sense of
being openly accepting of others within
a group. If the students are accepting
and encouraging the sharers feels as
though they are supported and will
investigate a positive outcome for the
day.
3. What routines and behaviors do
children need to learn and practice
in order to be successful with
around-the-circle sharing? Students
will need to be able to sit quietly and
actively listen to their classmates
without interruption. If they have
questions or comments, they need to
raise their hands and wait to be called
upon. When their turn approaches, they
need to use appropriate language and
clear complete sentences.
• Choose a student leader based off equity sticks or number order

Vocabulary according to last name.

• The student leader will have a vocabulary word whispered in their

Pictionary
ear. They will draw a picture on the whiteboard to try to get you to
guess the word.
• Students will raise hand to be called upon to give their guess of
which vocabulary word was chosen.
1. How does the teacher introduce
the activity? The teacher will
introduce the activity through
introducing a series of vocabulary words
that the students have been reviewing
in class, she will then give instructions as
to how to play Vocabulary Pictionary.
2. What academic skills are children
practicing? Children are practicing
cognitive recognition skills through
academic learning of vocabulary based
on the week's curriculum. All vocabulary
words will be of review for the week,
and they will need to recognize and
identify based off of another student's
depiction.
3. What are the community building
elements of this activity?
Community building elements of this
activity would involve dependency of
classmates to help identify and
recognize a given depiction of a
vocabulary word. They work as a team
to discuss and identify the correct
answer.
