Direct Proportion

L.O:- To be able to write equations that


link variables which are directly
proportional
Direct proportion
If two variables are directly proportional, it means
that if one doubles the other doubles. (Simply: the
variable is a multiple of the other).
So … if one is multiplied by ten, the other is
multiplied by ten AND If one is halved the other is
halved.
Exam: First need to find the multiplying factor
(called the constant of proportionality) then to use
it to solve a problem.
The two variables are linked by a constant of
proportionality known as k.

Inverse proportion
The term inverse variation means the
same as inverse proportion.
Inverse proportion is when one variable is
directly proportional to the reciprocal of
another variable and the two are said to be
inversely proportional to each other.
So … as one variable increases, the other
decreases.
