Intro to Cyberlink PowerDirector 8.0

This unit contains overview information and procedural steps for performing common
tasks and making movies in CyberLink PowerDirector. The procedures the ways to use
CyberLink PowerDirector are done through menu commands; however, one can also perform
many common tasks by using shortcut keys and buttons within the user interface.
Cyberlink PowerDirector is a digital video editing program that allows creation of
professional-looking videos and photo slideshows, complete with music, voice-overs, special
effects, transitions and much more. Video creators can then output their video into a file, then
upload it directly to Youtube or Facebook or burn it to a disc, complete with stylish menus.
Supported File Types

Users can add content to your Cyberlink PowerDirector project either by


capturing content directly in Cyberlink PowerDirector or by importing existing
digital media Files
If the video files, music and images are already available for production
use, ( for example in computer’s hard drive, a removable device, etc.), the files
can be imported directly into Cyberlink PowerDirector’s library in the Media
Room.
Cyberlink PowerDirector supports the following file
Formats:

Image: JPEG, TIFF, BMP GIF and PNG

Video: DV-AVI, Windows-AVI, DAT, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DVR-MS, VOB, VRO,


WMV, MOV, MOD, TOD, MPEG-4, MTS, M2TS, JTS,TS,M2T

Audio: MP3, WAV and WMA


Understanding Collections, Projects and Movies

The terms collection, project, and movie are used throughout the user interface
and help. The following topic explains these terms and their usage

Collection
A Collection contains audio clips, video clips, or pictures that were imported or
captured in PowerDirector. A collection acts as a container for clips, which are
smaller segments of audio and video, and helps organizing the imported or captured
content. Collections appear in the collections pane of Cyberlink PowerDirector.
Project
A project contains the arrangement and timing information of audio and video clips,
video transitions, video effects, and titles that have been added to the storyboard/Timeline.
A saved project file in Cyberlink PowerDirector has a .pds file extension. By saving
projects, a user can open the project file later and begin editing it in PowerDirector from
where it was last saved.

Movie
A movie is the Final project saved by using the Produce Movie Command from File
Menu. A movie can be saved to the computer or to a recordable CD, send it as an
attachment in an e-mail message, or save and send it to the web.

The saved movie can be watched in a media player, such as Microsoft Windows Media
Player, or in a Web browser. If DV camera is available and connected to the computer, it can
also record the movie to a tape. Then the movie can be viewed on the DV camera or on a TV.
