Side notes:
Mild Steel
aka Low-carbon steel
• High amounts of iron and ferrite = magnetic

An Introduction about the material

• Iron containing a small % of carbon
= More ductile &
malleable but less tensile Strength than high carbon
and other steels

•Relatively affordable compared to other steels

•Subject to oxidation if not properly coated

Aluminium *Bauxite is a
sedimentary rock
aka Aluminum !

•Bauxite is the main source of Aluminium

An Introduction about the material

•& Aluminium is the 3rd most abundant element

• Non-magnetic and ductile

• Resist corrosion
• 2019: India 2nd largest steel producer

• Mainly found in parts of Chota Nagpur plateau and the Orissa plateau

(Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa )

Mild Steel Aluminum

Cost Cheaper Expensive

Comparison, Differences वगैरह

Durability Poor resistance to corrosion “I simply doesn’t rust but I am
but coating lagaoge to Softer !
chalega
Weight Heavier and denser Lighter
Formability Mein bhi malleable hu aur More malleable + Ductile
Ductile bhi…

So winner?? Depends with situation & Client requirements !!!

If Aluminum is world 3rd

most abundant element why
is it more expensive
compared to Mild Steel?

DETAIL AT
Aluminium is one of Earth’s most abundant metals known for its lightness, strength and resistance to
corrosion.

Untreated aluminium extrusions are perfectly adequate for many applications; however, there are many
valid reasons to treat the surface of aluminium profiles.

These include introducing colour, supplementing corrosion resistance; augmenting

hardness; arresting wear-and-tear; and adding reflectivity.

Two coating systems – anodised and powder coating – are currently preferred when
specifying architectural aluminium.
Anodized Powder coating

Advantages Disadvantages

Easy to maintain, anodised aluminium can be oAnodised coatings may become vulnerable to acidic

oThe translucence of the coating may lead to colour

fading, and does not emit VOCs.
oSince anodised finishes can only be applied to aluminium,

powder coatings
Advantages Disadvantages

highly versatile. If 7 tank process not followed, then it will chip off

huge range of colours from simple matt, satin and Cannot** be anodized, can only be powder coated later on
gloss finishes to super matt, super gloss, and textured
finishes.

Consistency in finish is assured

Dents and scuffs are easily repaired using liquid

coating that accurately matches original colours.

better colour uniformity between batches.

chemical resistance to mortar, as well as to

industrial-strength acidic and alkaline cleaners, powder
coatings do not produce air pollution.
Costing
Disadvantages

If 7 tank process not followed, then it will chip off

Cheap quality power coating= Rs .0.06-0.07 per sq inch
Cheap quality anodizing = Rs .0.09-0.1 per sq inch
Cannot** be anodized, can only be
powder coated later on
Cheap quality anodizing is still better than power coating

Standard powder coating = Rs 0.12- 0.15 per sq inch

Standard anodizing = Rs 0.15- 0.18 per sq inch
If the material itself is of low quality, then
standard or cheap coating wont make much
difference
