Various Causes of Water Pollution

• Industrial Waste.
• Sewage and Wastewater.
• Mining Activities.
• Marine Dumping.
• Accidental Oil Leakage.
• The burning of fossil fuels.
• Chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
• Leakage From Sewer Lines.
Introduction

• contamination of water bodies, usually as a result

of human activities.
• Water bodies include for example lakes, rivers,
oceans, aquifers and groundwater.
• Water contamination results when contaminants
are introduced into the natural environment.
How water is contaminated?
• Water can be contaminated in several ways.
• It can contain microorganisms like bacteria and
parasites.
• It can contain chemicals from industrial waste
Most common contaminants

• Nitrates.
• Arsenic.
• Microorganisms, Bacteria, and Viruses.
• Aluminum.
• Fluoride.
Effects

• Diseases: typhoid, cholera, hepatitis and various

other diseases.
• Destruction of ecosystem: Water pollution can
cause an entire ecosystem to collapse.
• Eutrophication: Chemicals in a water body,
encourage the growth of algae.
• Effects the food chain: Disruption in food chains
happens when toxins and pollutants in water.
Prevention
• Save water
• Better treatment of sewage
• Use ecofriendly products
Conclusion

The best way to prevent large-scale water pollution is

to try and reduce its harmful effects.

There are various small changes we can make to

protect ourselves from a scary future where water is
scarce.
