Big Bang Theory x
The best-supported theory of our universe's origin centers on
an event known as the Big Bang. This theory was born of the
observation that other galaxies are moving away from our own at
Topics
great speed in all directions, as if they had all been propelled by an
ancient explosive force. At its simplest, it says the universe as we
know it started with an infinitely hot, infinitely dense singularity, then
inflated -first at unimaginable speed, and then at a more measurable
rate - over the next 13.8 billion years to the cosmos that we know
Video today.

Steady State Theory x
Another theory about the Universe is called the
Steady State theory , which says that the Universe has
Topics always existed, and that the density of matter in the
expanding universe remains unchanged over time
because of the continuous creation of matter. In other
words, the observable Universe essentially remains the
same regardless of time or place.

Observational evidence that
supports these theories x
Observational evidence for the Big Bang is that
galaxies are moving away from us at great speed in all
Topics directions and also includes the analysis of the spectrum
of light from galaxies, which reveal a shift towards longer
wavelengths proportional to each galaxy's distance in a
relationship described by Hubble's law. On the other hand,
the Steady State theory is based on the perfect
cosmological principle, which requires the universe to be
Video the same at all times, as well as in all places.

Summary/Conclusion x
Big Bang Theory Steady State Theory
• states that 13.8 billion years ago, the universe • says that the Universe has always existed, and that the
Topics expanded from a tiny, dense and hot mass to its density of matter in the expanding universe remains
present size and much cooler state unchanged over time
• suggest that there is a beginning to the universe • suggest that there is no beginning and no end
• density of matter decreases over time • density of matter is constant overtime
Video However, Big Bang and Steady State theory both tell that the universe is
expanding

Differences between Big Bang
and Steady State theory x
Both theories are trying to explain the beginning and the evolution of the
universe, but there’s a lot differences between this two.
Topics • In the big bang theory all the matter was created in one explosive beginning,
while in the steady state theory matter has been created at a constant rate
throughout an infinite time and is still being created at the same rate today.
• Steady state theory suggests the universe is isotropic and homogeneous in
space and time, but the big bang theory suggests a universe, which is isotropic
and homogeneous in space but not in time.
• In the big bang theory, the matter in the universe is conserved, but in the steady
Video state theory, mass is produced to keep the perfect cosmological principle.
