CONCEPT
 Communication is a word of Latin origin
derived from word “communis.” It stands
for natural activity of all human beings to
convey opinions, feelings, information and
ideas to others through words, body
language, or signs.

According to Peter Drucker communication is
 “the ability of the various functional groups
within the enterprise to understand each
other and each others’ functions and
concerns.”
 Keith Davis “..it is the process of passing
information and understanding from one
person to another”

 Generally, people retain
 10% of what they read
 20% of what they hear
 30% of what they see
 50% of what they see and hear

 The main components are sender,
message, channel, receiver and
response.

COMMUNICATION
There are five main elements of communication:
1.Sender/encoder/speaker:
one who initiates the comm..
2.Receiver/decoder/listerner:
He receives the encoded message which he
attempts to decode.

by the sender.
4.Medium: it could be oral, written or non
verbal.

1.CREDIBILITY- It’s a long drawn out
process.

2. Courtesy- Much can be achieved if tact,


diplomacy and appreciation of people are
woven in the message.

3.Clarity-Absolute clarity of ideas adds much to
the meaning of the message.

4.Correctness-At the time of encoding, the


sender should ensure that his knowledge of
the receiver is comprehensive.

5.Consistency- Too many up’s and downs may
lead to confusion in the mind of the receiver.

6.Concreteness- Concrete and specific


expressions are to be preferred in favour of
vague and abstract expression.

7.Conciseness- The message to be
communicated should be brief and concise.
Example: In most of the case it has been seen
that the date of the policy…
Usually the policy date….
