Type of building: Institutional building.
Starting date: June 18/2019.
Finishing date: ongoing project.
 CONTRACT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
UNIT PRICE CONTRACT
•The total contract price is based on the price of total contract
unit.
•Contractors bid based on units of works.
•Time and cost risk is shared.
•Owner: at risk for total quantities.
•Contractor: at risk for fixed unit price.
Its advantages:
•Easy for contract selection.
•lower risk for contractor.
• Early start is possible.
• fair basis for competition.
o Its Disadvantage:

 Final cost is not known from the beginning.

 Procurement Method
Procurement is the purchase of goods or services or works at the best
possible prices, delivery dates and legal terms.
•Procurement of Service: Consultancy service is given by ASPIRE
AECOM ENGINEERING and ARCHITECTURAL PLC.
•Procurement of goods: they didn’t have common customer.
Methods of project delivery system
Design Bid Build
•The most common delivery method.
•Two different contract is there ( with Architect and engineer, and
General contractor).
•Before the start of construction design has to be completed.
Its Advantages:
Cost is determined early in the process.
conflicts between designer and contractor are minimized.
Facilitates fast-track construction.
Its Disadvantages
A lengthy and time consuming process.
Conflict between teams (since teams work individually).
 Safety management system:
an organization-wide process designed to manage safety risk in the
work place.
Safety
 is the state of being free from harm or danger.
However, there is no SMS (99%) at that site!
 Resources Available On Work
Human resource: Architect, Supervisor, Site Engineer, Office
Engineer, General Forman, Store Keeper, and Daily Laborers.
Equipments: mixer, truck, and loader
Materials: wood, cement, stone, sand, gravel, timber ,aggregate,
metals, concrete ,and facilities.
 DETAIL PROJECT WORK DURING
INTERNSHIP PERIOD
 Site work
 During my internship period the below works are preformed :
Grade beam
Basement slab
Ground floor
Elevation column
Shear wall for aesthetic view.
Lean concrete
C-5(Lean Concrete) is concrete with cement content lower than
that of water.C-5 means that a concrete of grade c-5 that will have a
compressive or crushing strength or withstanding compression of
5mpa.lean concrete is mainly used under foundation.
 some of the main purposes of lean concrete includes:
•Prevention of direct contact between reinforcement and soil.
•Provision of uniform flat surface.
•Resists the moisture that comes from the ground.
Grade beam
is one of sub structure which used to transfer bending moment and shear
force that came from supper structure to the ground and the foundation.
Grade beam also protect the horizontal movement of individual
footing.

 HARD CORE FOR GROUND FLOOR SLAB

 In my site hard core “kiskaso” is placed for the 250 mm
thickness. Finally 50mm reinforced concrete (RC) slab is formed.
Its advantages :
 To prevent ground slab from settlement.
 To carry load imposed by concrete slab.
 To disrupt upward movement of probable capillary water.
 Economically it’s cheaper than concrete.
Ground floor slab
This type of slab that lay on the ground mesh reinforcements
arrangement used after hardcore and poured lean concrete for the
ground slab which used to prevent crack developed by settlement,
temperature change, shrinkage, expansion and other factor.
AN EXPANSION JOINT
-is one of structural member in construction which is not designed and
constructed in all building but designed and constructed when the
allowable length of the building is greater than 40 or 45m.
PURPOSE OF PROVIDING EXPANSION JOINT
Increasing the strength of the building.
Increasing the durability of the building.
If there is happening of earth quake or any other exterior impact on
the building expansion joint restricts the collapsing of the
building/collapsing becomes by part.
Elevation columns
A column is a vertical structural member transmitting axial
compression loads with or without moments.
The cross sectional dimensions of a column are generally
considerably less than its height. Column support mainly vertical loads
from the floors and roof and transmit these loads to the foundation.
Procedures:
•Arrangement of reinforcement (longitudinal and stirrup).
•Tie spacer to the longitudinal reinforcement.
•Placement of formwork on the four sides of elevation column and
brace.
•Use plumb bob and check vertical alignment.
•Cast concrete as per design.
•Remove the form work on the next day.
Concrete Spacer
•are made at the site by using plain concrete with its required
dimension of cover to reinforcement and a wire which is useful for
connection purpose.
•They are used to maintain uniform thickness of clear cover at
every part of the structure which is reinforced.
In my site:
•For column, Beam, shear wall and slab they used = 25mm and
•For foundation and grade beam they used = 50mm
 Beam
• is a structural element that is capable of withstanding load primarily
by resisting bending.
• The bending force induced into the material of the beam as a result
of the external loads, own weight, span and external reactions to these
loads is called a bending moment.
Solid slab
Among the slab types in our construction site there were solid slab.
RCC slabs are flexural members provided to cover distances
between beams or supports. They are used as floors, or roofs of
building. Usually slabs are provided continuously over beams
monolithically.
Staircase
• It is a structure consisting of steps leading from one floor to another.
• This may have a series of steps or flights of steps connected by
loading, for passing from one level to another.

Shear wall
• It is constructed by steel bar and concrete;
• most of the time shear wall constructed surrounding the building to
protect shear force that comes from the besides load.
• Shear wall is a reinforced concrete structure that is designed when
there is basement floor.
 Purpose of shear wall:
 To resist lateral earth pressure, wind pressure/weathering and earth
quake.
 It also used as column bracing member to decrease
slenderness/sway-ness of frame and,
To resist ground moisture, to resist passage of heat &sound.
 Freedom from maintenance & durable.
Hollow concert block work
For our site HCB was manufactured out of the site for external and
internal wall construction. The size of blocks used on our site:
HCB with dimension 40cm*20cm*20cm used for external walls
and external walls.
HCB with dimension 40cm*20cmm*15cm used for partition.
HCB with dimension 40cm*20cm*10cm was used for toilets.
 Formwork
Formwork is a temporary structure that is required to support and
form concrete members.
 Requirements of formworks:
Strong enough to support dead and live loads.
Rigid enough to restrain movement.
Tight joints to avoid leaking.
Easy for sequential removal.
Cheap and available material and re-usable.
Material Used For Construction
 In order to execute the construction of building they are used
different construction materials; including Cement, Sand ,Aggregates,
& Steel.
 Measuring The Ingredients Of Concrete
1, Measure by weight
2, Measure by volume
The amount of both fine and coarse aggregate could be measured in
two ways.
1, Measure by weight
This is a method where a beam balance or scale balance is used to
measure and adjust the right quantity (in grams, kilograms…) of sand
and aggregate.
For a mix ratio by volume of 1:2:3 (1 cement, 2 sand & 3 aggregate)
the ratio could be converted in to weight as follows.
1 bag/sack of cement weighs 50Kg
Therefore the sand should weigh 2*50Kg = 100Kg and
The aggregate should weigh 3*50Kg = 150Kg.
Measure by Volume
This method is highly practiced in the site where I practiced in.
• 40cmx50cmx13cm— struck volume is used when it is desire to
achieve C-35 concrete
• 40cmx50cmx16cm— struck volume is used when it is desire to
achieve C-30 concrete
• 40cmx50cmx18cm— struck volume is used when it is desire to
achieve C-25 concrete
• 40cmx50cmx20cm—struck volume is used when it is desire to
achieve C-20 concrete

Conclusion
The Curriculum used for higher education system has new
features that involve practical and theoretical courses and the
internship semester in fifth first semester.
The main objective of the internship program is to enable the
intern to experience the practical activities carried out on site
(working environment) and correlate it with the theoretical
background gained through learning in four years class time.
Other objectives include if problems exist to identify its cause
and take engineering measures to solve it, to get accustomed to
the working environment, to be governed by the rule and
regulation of the employer, to be more of team worker.
Recommendation for the Company
• The company workers should have responsible to help the intern
students; to help them.
• The company should have improve pays in order to satisfactory
payment for its employer.
• They should have organize their construction material in good
condition. Sometimes they place formworks and metal scaffolding
in inappropriate area.
Recommendation for the University
• Preparing on timely format of internship as much as possible.
• Receive money for students immediately us they release the
campus.
• It is better to give field trip before the internship program.
• Inform for the students their advisor before they release the
campus.
