Cryptomenorrhea
Definition
It is an Abnormal condition in which the
products of menstruation are retained with in
the vagina because of an imperforate hymen
or less often with in the uterus because of an
occlusion of the cervical canal.
Causes
• Imperforate hymen
• Mullerian duct anomalies
• Transverse Vaginal septum with functioning uterus
• Isolated Vaginal agenesis with functioning uterus
• Isolated Cervical agenesis with functioning uterus
• Stenosis
• Secondary vaginal Atersia
Imperforated hymen
Symptoms
Periodic pain in the lower abdomen
Urinary problems – urinary retention
Long time amenorrhea
Peritonitis
Adhesions and endometritis
Signs
Abdominal examination : swelling is felt on
palpation
Endometriosis
