SUBJECT-NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM
SUBMITTED BY-ANKIT PARIJA
( MSC COMPUTER SCIENCE )
WE HAVE TO CONSIDER ON :-

NETWORK NETWORK OS

ADVANTAGES
TYPES OF NOS
&DISADVANTAGES
OPERATING SYSTEM

• An operating System is a system software that manages computer

hardware , software resources and provide some common services for
computer programs.
• Operating system are found on all devices that contain a computer.
• From cellular phones and video game consoles to web server and super
computers.
• Ex:- Microsoft Windows , Apple mac OS , LINUX ,UBUNTU, ANDROID.
EXAMPLES OF OPERATING
SYSTEM
NETWORK:-

 IN JANUARY 1,1983 INTERNET WAS FIRST DEVELOPED.

 IN AUGUST 1995 INTERNET IS PORVIDED IN INDIA.

NETWORK:-
• A Network is a collection of Computer , Mainframes , network
devices, peripherals or other devices connected to allow Data
sharing.
• Ex-INTERNET (Which is connects millions of peoples all over the
world)
• It consist of two or more computers that are linked in order to share
there resources ,exchange files or allow electronic communications.
NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM:-

• A network operating system (NOS) is a computer operating system (OS)

that is designed primarily to support workstations, personal computers
and in some instances, older terminals that are connected on a local area
network (LAN).
• These systems run on a server and provide the capability to manage data,
users, groups, security, applications, and other networking functions.
• These types of operating systems allow shared access of files, printers,
security, applications, and other networking functions over a small
private network.
ROLE OF NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM ???

• A network operating system is an operating system

designed for the sole purpose of supporting workstations,
database sharing, application sharing and file and printer
access sharing among multiple computers in a network.
TYPES OF NETWORKING CONNECTIONS :-

• Local Area Network (LAN)

• Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
• Wide Area Network (WAN)
• Personal Area Network (PAN)
• Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)
• Campus Area Network (CAN)
• Storage-Area Network (SAN)
• System-Area Network (also known as SAN)
WAN
TYPES OF NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM

PEER TO PEER NETWORK SYSTEM

USERS ARE ALLOWED TO SHARE RESOURCES AND FILES LOCATED ON THERE COMUTERS AND
ACCESS SHARED RESOURCES FROM OTHERS.THIS SYSTEM IS NOT BASED WITH HAVING A FILE SERVER OR
CENTRALISED MANAGEMENT SOURCE.A PEER TO PEER NETWORK SETS ALL CONNECTED COMPUTERS
EQUAL.THEY ALL SHARED THE SAME ABILITIES TO USE RESOURCES AVAILABLE ON THE NETWORK.

CLIENT/SERVER NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM

IT CAN BE BASED ON A CLIENT/SERVER ARCHITECTURE IN WHICH A SERVER ENABELS MULTIPLE
CLIENTS TO SHARE RESOURCES.CLIENT/SERVER NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEMS ALLOW THE NETWORK TO
CENTRALISED FUNCTIONS AND APPLICATIONS IN ONE OR MORE DEDICATED FILE SERVERS.HERE THE
SERVER IS THE CENTER OF THE SYSTEM.
PEER TO PEER NETWORK SYSTEM CLIENT/SERVER NETWORK OPERATING SYSTEM
ADVANTAGES OF NETWORK OPERATING
SYSTEM :-
• Highly stable centralized servers.
• Security concerns are handled through servers.
• New technologies and hardware upgradation are easily
integrated into the system.
• Server access is possible remotely from different locations and
types of systems.
DISADVANTAGES OF NETWORK OPERATING
SYSTEM :-
• Servers are costly.
• User has to depend on a central location for most
operations.
• Maintenance and updates are required regularly.
• Examples of Network Operating System are: Microsoft
Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2008,
UNIX, Linux, Mac OS X, Novell NetWare, BSD, etc.
“ SELECTING THE RIGHT PLATFORM IS IMPORTANT FOR THE HEALTH OF YOUR
BUSINESS.IT'S WORTH BUILDING A TEST SYSTEM RUNNING YOUR PREFERRED
OPERATING SYSTEM,SO YOU CAN SPOT ANY ISSUES AND CHECK SECURITY AND
PERFFORMANCE PRIOR TO GOING LIVE WITH MINIMAL DISRUPTION FOR YOUR
USERS.”
