Abstract
This research paper demonstrate how man has designed language to dominant his role in the soc
found in almost all languages. This phenomena is decreased to much extent in the west as comp
underdeveloped countries where still we find a lot of cases.in this research we will try out to fin
words, expressions which show man as superior and women inferior in Pashto language.

Keywords: Patriarchy, society, Pashto language.

INTRODUCTION
Sociolinguistics is the descriptive study of the effect of any and all aspects of society, including
expectations, and context, on the way language is used, and society's effect on language. It differs
language, which focuses on the effect of language on society
Language is an important marker in a human society. Language performs a variety of functions: it se
vehicle for transmitting culture norms, values and expectations from one generation to other.
Feminist use the term”petrirarchy to describe man and women as well as to find the root ca
subordination .patriarchy in Pashto is called as ”plar waki” a social system in which the father is
household, having authority over women and children.

Research objectives
To find gender based linguistics variation in Pashto language and their role in suppression of females
To explore how gender is perceived and understood in Pashto society.

Research question

How patriarchy is manifested in Pashto language.

Literary review
In 1978, Penelope (Stanley) and Robbins (Wolfe) published a paper analyzing sex-marked predic
nothing that lexical asymmetry is also reinforced by gender specific distributional relationships. Ther
require male or female subjects, for example “menstruate”, conceive” or ejaculate. There are oth
gender specific objects. Castrate,” emasculate”, “fertilize” and deflower”.as might as expected, the
relationships are asymmetrical and tend to define and reinforce cultural stereotypes of appropriate
and men.
In 1980 article Susan Wolfe pointed out that in languages of indo European origins, noun denoting
“writer”,”doctor”,or professor”, are generally marked as(male),and this is equally true for those lang
grammatical gender as it is in English.
In a critique of dale spender man made language 1980, Maria black and Rosalind coward concluded
Perhaps the masculine genetic could be understood not terms of the hidden male general te
fact that the attributes of the male can in fact disappear into a non-gendered subject. Women, on th
appear as non-gendered subject…. Women are not the norm but this does not mean they are not d
feature is exactly the excess of (sexual} definitions and categories for women.

Research methodology
As our main concern of this research is sociolinguistics so we have divide our students in two main
students who belong to rural areas and those students who belong to that of the urban areas.

In the urban society the conditions were change as the people of the this society is more educated
those of the rural areas.in the rural area the language is more harsh, hard and more Petrarchan than
So the students those belong to the rural areas had more knowledge of the things because they dail
the other and they knew more proverb than the others.

Although there are many words and proverbs that indicates patriarchy in Pashto language but we c
that contain the word ”man” or” woman”.so that it is easily understood.

Despite the proverbs we also choose some couplets from poetry of khushal khan khattak and sahib s

Conclusion
All the languages in the world contain Petrarchan words. But gradually with the time people are
languages so they are coming to know about the elements and they are eliminating it from the lang

linguists works on more languages and come up with more unbiased phenomena languages wil
