 Food Products
Food additives are added to food to provide nutrients; to
improve the quality of color, flavor, or texture; and to prevent
or delay spoilage. They also include emulsifies, sweeteners in
low-calorie products, and most of the preservatives and
antioxidants that slow down product spoilage while
maintaining desirable taste.

Color is one of the most striking qualities affecting the appearance of food. It
helps us to decide whether to accept or reject particular kinds of food. Color in
food is added in order to enhance its visual appearance and to attract consumers
to buy the foods. Some colors are used purely for visual aesthetics, decoration on
cakes, candles, and other sweet items. However, many coloring additives have
been found to cause asthma, migraines, thyroid cancers, and thyroid damage.

Emulsifiers and Stabilizers
Any recipe that requires the mixing of ingredients that normally do not mix,
such as fat and water, need emulsifier and stabilizers to give and maintain the
desired consistency. A recent study suggests that emulsifiers have the potential
to damage the intestinal barrier, leading to inflammation and increasing risk
of chronic disease.

Dosage refers to the amount of chemical found in a medicine.
The amount of dosage given to a person depends on his/her
age. Infants to children require a small amount of dosage
while adolescents to adult have a higher dosage. The dosage

The chemicals are actually the materials found in medicines.
The action of a medicine therefore, depends on its chemical
and the disease or illness it is treating. For instance, in
tonsillitis (swelling of tonsils), antibiotic treats the infection
caused by bacteria that lives in our tonsils. Analgesics on the
other hand, relieve pain from any part of our body.
