Purposes
What is academic purposes?

 it involves presenting ideas effectively and formally in a scholastic


environment

 Academic purposes- intuitively know the proper way to


communicate in different settings; for instance the way you speak to
your friend.is usually different than the way you speak to your
parents.
EAP(English academic purposes)
has two division.
 English Academic Purposes is more usually know as study skills such as listening and note
taking.

 English for specific Academic Purposes is the language needed for particular subject
together with its disciplinary culture.
Language skills address
• Include: listening comprehension
• Fluency development
• Oral intelligibility
• Reading grammar
• Writing, critical reading
• Comprehending academic lectures
Example of Communication in Academic
Purposes

 Academic Paper – also called scholarly paper, which is in academic journals and
contains original research results or reviews exist results or show a totally new
invention.
Example:
• School Paper
• School Magazine
• School News Paper
 Research Paper – the systematic investigation into and study of materials and
sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusion.
 Lectures – to promote understanding via explanations of particular difficult concepts,
responds to student misconceptions and difficulties in academic topics.

 Seminars – Gathering of people for the purpose of discussing a state of topic. Instructive
sessions for particular engage of discussions about.

 Tutorials – Enable to complete assigned activities, develop specific skills and discussion
any problems you have read the study. It is less formal than lectures.

 Oral Communication – makes use of words and involve speaking and listening, the
sender and the receiver exchanges their thoughts and ideas verbally.

as textbooks, choose those that are not designed for ESL students, that is, not written or
developed for language studies.

 Use real college lectures in class. Your students are going to be attending college, and that
means sitting in college lectures.
 Give assignments similar to those students will receive in college- t’s never too early to
start giving college-like assignments to EAP students. Whenever possible, give them
assignments similar to those they’ll receive in their educations to come.

 Let students direct their own learning. Give students some freedom to make their own
educational goals. You might have them decide what topics you cover in class, what types
of assignments they’ll do or how they’ll study to accomplish those assignments.
