IMPORTANCE AND MEANING OF ROAD SIGNS

Regulatory signs:
Regulatory signs depict a variety of symbols that are applied to show or re-enforce traffic laws, regulations or
specifications which apply either at all times or at specified times or positions upon a street or highway.

These kinds of signs assist in managing the flow of traffic. It covers the commonly known road signs that
should be known by all motorists.
STOP SIGN:
a sign on the road that
tells drivers of
vehicles to stop and
not to continue until it
is safe
NO LEFT TURN
This traffic sign indicates
that left turns are
prohibited. When you see
the "NO LEFT TURN"
sign at an intersection,
you can either travel
straight through or turn
right.
NO RIGHT TURN
Do not make a right turn
at an intersection marked
by the "NO RIGHT
TURN" sign. You can
either travel straight
through the intersection
or turn left.
NO PARKING
You may not park at
locations where this sign
is installed. Some states
use additional pavement
markings to inform
drivers of parking
restrictions in the area.
NO PEDESTRIAN
CROSSING
The "NO PEDESTRIAN
CROSSING" sign forbids
pedestrians to cross the
street in this place.
DO NOT ENTER
A "Do Not Enter" sign is
usually installed at the
beginning of one-way streets
and ramps and it prohibits
drivers from entering a one-
way roadway where traffic is
moving in the opposite
direction. A DO NOT ENTER
traffic sign is usually installed
together with the "WRONG
WAY" sign.
ONE WAY
The "ONE WAY" sign warns
you that you are crossing a
one way street and that you
can only make a turn in the
direction the arrow is
pointing.
SPEED LIMIT-
CHILDREN
School zone speed limit,
active only when children are
present. Slow down to posted
speed limit if you see children
near the roadway. In some
states, the posted speed limit
applies only on school days
when children are present
(usual school hours are 7 a.m.
to 4 p.m., but hours may
vary).
