Introduction
• We have already seen the subject that are taught at the primary, secondary
and higher secondary schoos.
• Students study at the secondary stage of education.The first and second
language.
• In Tamilnadu they study the mother tongue and English .
MEANING OF SOCIAL JUSTICE
• Social justice refers to the equitable distribution of wealth, opportunities
to progress rights and privileges to all sections of society without any
discrimination.
• Human rights should be guaranteed to all sections of the people.
• They should be provided with equal opportunities to progress, rights to get
political power, distribution of wealth, special privileges etc..
INDICATORS OF SOCIAL JUSTICE
1. Untouchability
2. Denial of equal rights and opportunities for women
3. Racism
4. Linguistic fanaticism
5. Casteism and caste discrimination
6. Religious leaders opposing social changes etc….
NURTURING SOCIAL JUSTICE
THOUGHT SCHOOL LESSONS
• The language subject in the school curriculum provide many opportunities
to instill ideas of social justice in the minds of students
• Noble ideas such as all sections of people are equal and all have
contributed equally for the development of social progress could be easily
included in the language and social science subjects.
LANGUAGE
• All great poets and saints have repeatedly stressed the need for human
attitudes and brotherhood.
• Saints have stressed the equality of all men in the eyes of god.
• The great poets in tamil from Avvaiyar to Bharathi who denocenced caste
and gender discrimination.
• All secred books have condemned hatred and violence but enrolled the
virtues of truth, non violence, peace, love, charity and sacrifice.
SOCIAL SCIENCES
• The struggle for equality is going on for a long time. Abraham Lincoln
fought for the abolition of slavery.
• Modern democratic ideas were born in England and is fast spreading all
over the world.
• In India great reformers like Rajaram Mohan Roy, Narayana guru,
Gandhiji,Dr.Ambedker,periar,E.V.R had done great service to eradicate
the injustices against women the marginalized sections of the society and
oppression of scheduled castes and tribes.
MATHEMATICS
• ‘Same pay for same work’ is not being adopted in many countries
including India.
• Women are paid less for the same job. Arithmetic exercises in
mathematics should highlight the concept of same work and same pay.
• The economic status of men and women workers, disparity in wages
among women labourers in urban-rural areas, exploitation of children etc..
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
• The environmental pollutions, finding whether the impact of environment
pollution affects more the rural or urban people, The rich or poor people
explaining the contributions of the rural poor and the urban rich people to
environmental pollutions etc..
• Cleanliness of public places is totally inadequate in india
• Awareness should be developed that everyone has the responsibility for
keeping india a clean and healthy country.
SCIENCE
• Generally speaking people think that science is concerned with objective
reality and not concerned with values or socio economic problems.but it is
not wholly true.
• Presenting large number of scientific concepts and theories do not
constitute science education.
• Students should learn modern sciences and use them in today’s life.They
should use their knowledge in a positive manner.

• If we consider learning a large number of scientific truths and facts and
retaining them as science education.then children with high mental ability
and hailing from families of higher socio economic status will alone be in
the forefront in science education.

• Secondly contents in science lessons should explain how science has
brought about changes in the social structure. This may be called as the
nature of science.
• Students should not only be learners of science but also shapers of
science.
• Science education should keep in mind and include appropriate subject
areas and practical activities in the science curriculum.

• Thirdly, the method of teaching science should be only involve students to
solve problems following the instructions given but should develop the
ability in them to gather themselves the data related to the problem and
analyze them to arrive at appropriate decision.

• Fourthly, the adopting the approach of involving students in scientifically
solving socio political problems like poverty, illiteracy, population
explosion, global warming etc..
• Science is made accessible to all sections of students.only thought
studying science, students can make their contribution in finding out ways
and means of changing the general structure of the society and distributing
the societal resources to all people.
