INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Plastic is the very hazardous material and very difficult to decompose it is
main problem in the world. Use of plastic is high in our daily life such as
polythene bags, disposals, furniture’s, packing food packets and other
accessories. Plastic is varied in large and various types according to their
chemical composition. So, to separation of plastic wastes and mainly big
problem in front of us. The plastic waste is the hazardous problem in
today’s world. This is most dangerous problem in front of humanity. The
most hazardous type of wastes are HDPE and PTE and the plastic below
50micron is also causing a serious problem. These plastic mixed in the soil, it
directly effects on fertility of the soil. Nowadays, the large amount of plastic
is deposited into sea. This plastic wastes gives hazardous effect on the
aquatic life and quality of seawater also polluted by this plastic. So, we try to
finding efficient way to solve this problem of plastic waste. So, we added this
plastic wastes into the bricks and create the bricks by using plastic wastes.
It is most economical solution present in the construction industry, and
it is also economical and environment friendly solution of the plastic
wastes.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The study aims to determine the effect of the utilization of
plastic wastes on the problems we are having on pollution.
Specifically, this study will be conducted to answer the
following questions:
1. Is there a significant difference on the utilization of
plastic wastes in the production of hollow blocks?
2. Will the productivity of the plastic waste hollow block
increase?
3. Will the plastic waste hollow block be more durable
than the average hollow block?
Goals/Expected Outcomes
This study will be conducted to aim the following goals or
expected outcomes:
1. To develop an efficient way and to effectively
utilize the waste plastics.
2. To reduce the consumption of natural resources such as
clay for the manufacturing of bricks.
3. To minimize and reuse generation of waste plastic on
the land and water to avoid land and water degradation
and consequent pollution hazard.
STATEMENT OF THE HYPOTHESIS
The following hypothesis will be the bases of the conduct of
this activity.
1. The utilization of plastic waste in hollow blocks makes it
more durable.
2. Hollow blocks with plastic waste can decrease the
pollution in the environment.
3. Hollow blocks with plastic waste is cheaper and can
help decrease the expenses on building materials.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
 Limitation in time and cost
 Study will be conducted in our houses only
(individually) due to the pandemic.
 Difficulties in making the product to reality
 Limited access to data
 Health behavior or medical decisions, if any
 Equipment
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will be a breakthrough not just in science but
in construction and environment care. If we use plastic
waste in the utilization of hollow blocks it will be an eco
friendly product. It can help people with no permanent
place to live, because it is cheaper than your average
hollow block. This will also serve as sample in teaching
research subjects in the city division of Sorsogon especially
those schools having special science subjects.
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
 Analytical case study
 Mixed Method
 Quantitative Method Design
Information on the background of the samples;
Hollow blocks different amounts of plastic waste and
their size.

 Qualitative Method Design

Information from the researcher's observation.
Collection and Preparation:
The plastic wastes will be obtained from garbage dumps in
the community or your own garbage. Manual separation of
plastics from garbage will be done. To facilitate the
separation of the plastics from the garbage, the garbage
must be well organized from biodegradable and non-
biodegradable. Afterwards, the plastics will be cut into
shorter strips or pieces and then be cut once again to make
them finer. This step is necessary to be able to mix the
plastics with the other components for hollow blocks like
the binder. The binder will be the plastic and it will be
mixed with sand. The plastic and sand will be mixed at high
temperatures. After the mixture of sand and plastic will
compress it down into a block.
Production of Plastic Hollow Blocks:
The four kinds of plastic hollow blocks will be placed in
molds with measurements of 40cm (length) x 20 cm
(width). After allowing the mixture to set, the resulting
blocks will be subjected to the different testing procedures
to determine their suitability as such. Four replicates will
be tested for each of the mixtures.

Testing for Breaking Strength:

The sample block will be placed 5 feet from the ground
and dropped. The sample blocks will be tested for strength
and if it can beat a normal hallow block.
Testing for Compression Strength:
A compression tester will be used to determine the
compression strength of the sample blocks. The block will
be placed in between two platforms which were manipulated
to exert a certain force measured in kilograms. When the
sample cracked at a given force, this will be recorded as the
compression strength in kilograms per cubic inch.
Testing for Statistical Significance of the Data:
Testing for significant differences between the treatments
in the various physical tests will be done using one-way
analysis of variance. Statistical conclusions will be
interpreted in terms of the objectives of the study.
Data Analysis
The researcher will then collect the data observed
and plot in the graph. Observe between the
independent variable; Methods used to make the
product, and dependent variable; compression
strength/Durability. The research can formulate
and prove that turning plastic wastes to hollow
blocks is possible.
