Clearing Hallways
Clearing 4 Way Hallways

1) One Man notifies Team of upcoming “4 Way Hallway” and orders Team to assume
double stack if not already assumed.

2) One and Two Man pop the left and right hallways as described in T-Shaped Hallway.
Three and Four Man cover down the hall the Team is travelling down.

3) Once One and Two Man have notified “Left Hallway Clear” and “Right Hallway Clear,”
One Man orders Three Man to move across and cover the hallway or Three and Four
Man to move across and cover.

4) Once Three Man (or Three and Four Man) notify “Clear,” One Man notifies which
hallways to hold and which for team or follow on stack to move down: “Hold left and
right hallways and move forward” or “Hold left hallway and forward hallway, move
right.” Marines covering the designated hallways continue to provide security while the
stack or follow on stacks move down hallway designated by One Man.

Room Clearing
Room Clearing

1) One Man designates whether Team assumes Single Stack at door or Split Stack
(Stack split on opposite sides of door).

2) One Man attempts to pie off as much of room before entry if possible and notifies
stack of what he sees. If doorway is located at one end of room, One Man notifies
stack of short wall: “Short wall on left side.”

3) One Man indicates method of entry with hand signal if possible, otherwise with voice
(Buttonhook, Cross, etc.). Two Man repeats order to Three Man, who repeats to
Four Man.

4) Four Man acknowledges order by using his knee to tap Three Man’s knee. Three
Man does same to Two Man, who does same to One Man. One Man then makes
entry.

5) Two Man follows behind One Man and moves to opposite corner, unless limited
penetration. Three and Four Man remain outside until One Man calls for support.

6) One Man notifies “Left/Right side clear.” Two Man notifies “Right/Left side clear.”
Least engaged Marine then calls out “Overhead check…checking…checking…” and
conducts an overhead check for mouseholes, ceiling access, etc. Once clear, he
notifies “Overhead clear.”

7) One Man notifies “Room clear.” One Man describes room, any other hallways or
doorways and windows in room, then orders support to enter, notifying a) how many
Marines to enter, b) where to enter and c) who to stack on: “There is a door to the
right in the room. Three and Four Man enter and stack on Sgt Doe on door to right.”

8) If possible, mark doorway of cleared room with chalk. “X” marks cleared room.
Time permitting, indicate date and time.

Note: If Marine goes down while entering room, remainder of stack does not follow in. Drag
Marine out of room and use grenades to clear room.

Cordon and Search
Cordon and Search

Note: The Team will not be able to conduct a conventional cordon and
search operation due to its limited size. However, the Team may be required to
conduct a limited cordon of a target of opportunity until QRF arrives.

1) Patrol Leader orders squad to conduct a cordon of target building and notifies
fire teams of where to establish security positions.
2) First Fire Team establishes security over the main entrance of target building.
The fire team must provide security to the rear as well, thus providing both a
partial inner and outer cordon. Team Ldr notifies PL “First FT Set.”
3) Second Fire Team establishes security position that covers side of building and
must ensure security to rear as well. Team Ldr notifies PL “Second FT Set.”
4) Third Fire Team and HQ establish position between 1st and 2nd FT’s. These teams
will be the search team of the target building. Team Ldr notifies PL “Third FT Set.”
If no search of building is conducted by squad, then 3rd FT provides rear security.

POSSIBLE IED
REACT TO POSSIBLE IED:

1. Patrol halts. Vic that identifies possible IED notifies all Vics. All Vics get near/far security, up to 300 meters or terrain
defilade. If patrol has partially driven past suspected IED, the first Vic to identify IED calls “Monster, Vic X” with X being
the Vic that is closest and just past IED. Vic(s) past IED push up to 300 meters or terrain defilade IOT gain far security. All
others move back.
2. Lead Vic attempts to confirm IED with optics.
3. PL sends up UXO 9 Line to higher.

MOUNTED OPERATIONS
DETONATED IED
REACT TO DETONATED IED (5 C’s):
1. Vic hit by IED, or any Vic in Patrol, notifies all Vics of IED detonation.
2. All Vics gain near/far security up to 300 meters from detonation or terrain dependent. Vics that have already
passed the detonated IED move forward to gain far security. Vics that have not driven past detonation back up to
gain near security.
3. Vic in the kill zone will attempt to use radio to pass ACE report.
4. If not able VC will use VC kit (Green Smoke/Green Star/Red Smoke/Red Star)
a. “Green” means no casualties
b. “Red” mean casualties
5. If “Green” conduct same IA drill for PIED, and use recovery vic to get vehicle out of the KZ.
6. If “Red” PL notifies higher and requests CASEVAC and MIST report.
7. Simultaneously, tow vehicle (Vic behind hit Vic) moves to assess situation and directs recovery of personnel or
vehicle. Tow Vehicle gives SITREP to PL.
8. PL decides whether to abandon downed Vic or rig for tow.
9. If rigged for tow, Recovery Vehicle moves to Driver’s side of Downed Vehicle. Right Rear Passenger of
Recovery Vehicle and Driver of Downed Vehicle rig for tow. Move downed vic out of the KZ.
10. If abandon, personnel are moved from the kill zone and vehicle is abandoned (retrieve or destroy weapons,
comm., sensitive equipment). All casualties are treated and Patrol goes firm until QRF arrives.
11. If tow is attempted, follow towing SOP. Patrol attempts to move to designated rally point and re-assess.

MEDIA RELATIONS

GUIDANCE

□ DO NOT VENT TO THE MEDIA. MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA ARE NOT YOUR
ENEMIES OR YOUR FRIENDS.

□ STAY IN YOUR LANE. DISCUSS ONLY THOSE MATTERS OVER WHICH YOU
HAVE DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY OR PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE. SQUAD
LEADERS TALK ABOUT THEIR SQUADS, PLATOON COMMANDERS TALK
ABOUT THEIR PLATOONS.

□ REMEMBER OPSEC. DO NOT DISCUSS INFORMATION THAT MAY BE USED

BY THE ENEMY.

□ THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS “OFF THE RECORD.”

□ TELL THE TRUTH.

□ DO NOT DISCUSS ROE

□ DO NOT SPECULATE. DO NOT ANSWER “WHAT IF?” QUESTIONS.

□ DO NOT USE, “NO COMMENT”. “I DON’T KNOW,” IS AN ACCEPTABLE

ANSWER.

□ DO NOT DISCUSS POLITICAL OR FOREIGN POLICY MATTERS.

□ DO NOT USE ACRONYMS

TIPS FOR ON-CAMERA INTERVIEWS

□ PREPARE YOUR UNIFORM AND BE AS SQUARED AWAY AS THE SITUATION

ALLOWS.

□ TALK TO THE INTERVIEWER, NOT THE CAMERA.

□ KNOW YOUR MISSION AND KNOW WHAT YOU DO.

□ PROVIDE COMPLETE ANSWERS IN 20-30 SECONDS.

□ TAKE YOUR TIME AND THINK ABOUT YOUR ANSWERS BEFORE YOU SPEAK.

□ ANSWER ONLY ONE QUESTION AT A TIME.

□ DON’T BE AFRAID TO SAY, “I DON’T KNOW.”

□ NEVER LOSE YOUR COOL.
