Objectives of the AEP Workshop
• To Impart knowledge about the process of growing
up during Adolescence to students in school.
• To understand the physical, social, emotional &
behavioral aspects of adolescence
• To understand specific adolescent issues like STD’s,
HIV, substance abuse etc.
• To create a supportive environment for adolescents.
• To highlight the role of teachers as ADVOCATES of
AEP.

Who is an Advocate?

• An Advocate is a Person who influences


others to support an idea, issue, organization
or programme.

Adolescence
• “Adolescence” is a period between
childhood and adulthood.
- period of Storm and Stress
• “Puberty” is the name given to the
changes that occur in girls and boys as
they grow up.
• Boys and girls between 10–19 years are
called “Adolescents”.
• Persons in the age group 10–24 years are
called “Young people”.

Alarming Facts
• Over 35% of all reported HIV/AIDS cases in India
occur among young people in the age group of

• The estimated number of drug abusers in India is
around 3 million. 24% of drug abusers are in the
age group of 12–18 years.
• Adverse sex ratio- 0-6 years=927/ 1000 & at 10-19
years= 882 / 1000
