Group Discussion
• Group Discussion or popularly known as  GD is a type of discussion
that involves people sharing ideas or activities.
• People in the group discussion relate to one basic idea. Based on that
idea, everyone in the group represents his/her perspective.

• Participants
The number of candidates in a Group Discussion depends on the available strength.
The participants can range from 7 to 12 in a group. If the strength is low, the number of
participants can range from 5 to 7.

• Duration of a GD
The average duration : 15 - 20 minutes.
But it may vary depending on the number of candidates in a group.
Sometimes, the panelist or judges can extend the discussion for more than 15 minutes. They can also
end the discussion in between. The participants should not consider any assumption that the GD will be
conducted only for 15 minutes.

• 1. TOPIC ANNOUNCEMENT : ( Any type of topic can be given for
discussion. Technical, factual, scientific, any case study…)

• 2. PREPARATION TIME : (03 -05 minutes.)

• 3. INITIATING THE DISCUSSION: Any candidate in the group can


initiate the discussion. Moreover, any candidate can continue the
discussion once it is opened.

• 4. Conclusion of a GD:
when the panelist wishes to stop the discussion after all aspects
of the topic being discussed. Any of the group member may be asked
to conclude the session by summarizing it.

(Summarization : the discussed ideas in discussed the words.)

5. Final score calculation of each candidate by the panelists.

to short-list the candidates with no loss of time.

• Some guidelines for a GD:


• 1. DO not hesitate to take the initiative.
• 2. Do not take lead in case you are ignorant of the topic at all.
• 3. DO not imitate others.
• 4. DO not lose your confidence
• 5. Be a substantial contributor in the GD.
• 5.Exhibit positive body language and Healthy Eye Contact.
• 6. Speak audible .
