It was the only organization that
envisioned:
(1) a united Filipino citizen that would
revolt against the Spaniards for,
(2) the total of independence of the
country from Spain.
It’s primary goal was to gain
independence from Spain through a
revolution.

The Katipunan had four aims, namely:
To develop a strong alliance with each
and every Katipunero;
To unite Filipinos into one solid
nation;
To win Philippine independence by
means of an armed conflict (or
revolution); and
To establish a republic after
independence.

Other factors that were influential in the
forming of the Katipunan (and that of
Kartilya):
• The PROPAGANDA MOVEMENT
– propelled by the execution of the
three priest, Gomburza in 1872.
• The LA LIGA FILIPINA – was
established by Jose Rizal when he
decided to return to Philippines to
continue to call for reforms through
legal means.

KATIPUNAN
 The life that is not consecrated to a lofty and
reasonable purpose is a tree without a shade, if
not a poisonous weed.

 To do good for personal gain and not for its

own sake is not virtue.

 Whether our skin be black or white, we are all

born equal; superiority in knowledge, wealth
and beauty are to be understood, but not
superiority by nature.
KARTILYA NG
KATIPUNAN
 Do not waste thy time: wealth can be
recovered but not time lost;
 To the honorable man, his word is sacred.
 Thou must not look upon woman as a mere
playtime, but as a faithful companion who will
share thee the penalties of life; (her (physical)
weakness will increase they interest in her and
she will remind thee of the mother who bore
thee and reared thee.
