Objectives:
1. Compare and contrast the plot, character and
theme of El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere.

2. Value the role of youth in the development of the


future society.

About el filibusterismo
 The Reign of Greed
 Is the second novel written by Philippine national hero José Rizal. It is
the sequel to Noli Me Tángere.

 Both of Rizal's novels had a profound effect on Philippine society in


terms of views about national identity, the Catholic faith and its influence
on the Filipino's choice, and the government's issues in corruption, abuse
of power, and discrimination, and on a larger scale, the issues related to
the effect of colonization on people's lives and the cause for
independence. These novels later on indirectly became the inspiration to
start the Philippine Revolution.

 This novel encourage the people who experienced abuse
revenge and seek for justice using violent means

 This novel was written in the memory of GomBurZa.


(Mariano Gomez, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora) the
three priest who experienced injustice and executed in
1872.
 If Noli Me Tangere describe the society during the spanish
colonization in the Philippines.

 El Filibusterismo encourage the people to rise and unite to


assert reform even with violent means.

characters of the novel
Simoun
The continuation of character of Crisostomo Ibarra from being
idealistic the cruel society made him pessimistic, using his wealth he
encouraged the people who experienced abused to join him in his
rebellion against the church and society.

Basilio
He was the son of Sisa and adopted by Kapitan Tiago. A
medical student and the boyfriend of Juli.

Isagani
He was the nephew of the good priest named Padre
Florentino. He was idealistic and a student leader. He was the
friend of Basilio and the boyfriend of Maria Paulita Gomez.

Ginoong Pasta
He was a former idealistic Filipino but because of the
corruption of the government He became self-centered.

Cabesang Tales
A farmer who rented a piece of land from the corporation of the
friars. When the friars wanted to increased the tax for the land he
refused and then he was abducted and later he join the plan of Simon.
But instead of attaining justice, he faced his death.

Juli
She was the late fortunate daughter of Cabesang Tales and the
girlfriend of Basilio. When her father was abducted by the rebels she
offered her service to Hermana Penchang to get the money for the
ransom and when Basilio was imprisoned she offered her body to a
priest for the release of Basilio because of the different misfortunes that
she experienced she committed suicide.

Placido Pinetente
He was a student from the province. A scholar and a victim of a
self-centered professor. He walked out from the school and join the
plan of Simoun.

Maria Paulita Gomez 
She was the girlfriend of Isagani but in the end she married
another man just to follow the request of her aunt Doña Victorina.

Don Custodio
A Spaniard who was placed in the high position in the
government even if he was not educated and did not have
enough skills.

Padre Florentino
The relative of Isagani and a good student priest.

PLOT
Simon was an inspiration to others who had suffered 
injustice at the hands of the friars and Spanish government 
authorities. Placido Penitente, Kabesang Tales, and Basilio were 
among those  who joined simoun to start the revolution. 
Isagani is the one who refuses to participate.

HIGH VALUE 1
The plan of Simoun did not succeed because of Basilio and Isagani. Later on,
Simoun's true identity was discovered as a result of the incident, and as a consequence
of this, as well as the failed plan, Simoun took his own life.
