Planning, Scheduling and Setting the Tone for the Year
Planning: Refer to pg. 6 of handbook and create an agenda
Scheduling: Determine date, location and participants
Setting the Tone: Set a tone that is collegial

In pairs, brainstorm phrases that build a cooperative environment and record

In groups of 4 (steward, second steward, principal and AP), role
play the following 2 scenarios:
1) Discussion of when UTD’s 10 minutes will be at faculty meetings
2) Appointment of FEA Sponser
Debrief as a whole group

• Divide into small groups (3-5)
• Create a mock “Membership Team” with your group
• Mission: Locate and greet new faculty and staff, establish
relationships, retain current members and recruit potential
members.
• Develop a plan for the next 4 weeks using the blank
calendars to determine the date you will: Meet with your
Membership Team, ask them to greet potentials, map the
school, create an agenda for your next unit meeting and
create an agenda for your next faculty meeting.

With a partner, brainstorm ideas and chart them for


inclusion in your next 10-minute presentation.

Introduce the article “Testing in Florida is a Mess” for


possible use.

Activity #10
In a new small group of 4, create a unit meeting agenda for the next two
months using some of the examples below.

● Keep it positive and upbeat


● Recognize new members and those who recruited them
● Provide updates/News/Monthly Alerts
● Include upcoming UTD professional development opportunities
● Invite guests
