classmates before we start our presentation
visit mentimeter and type the code.. All of your answers are considerable now
thats done!! Lest head onto our next
To test your knowledge in today’s topic what agenda!!
do you know about tactile buttons?
Conversation:
Jem: Have you ever thought of going into elevators…
Erika: What..? dont tell me..
Jem: No.. no.. Of course Ive been one.. Pero have you ever wondered what
kind of buttons were used for it to function..?
Adriel: hmm.. Now that I think about it.. I do wonder..
Joshua: that’s easy they used a special type of buttons
Jem: that’s right, but to be specific they used tactile buttons
Erika: tactile buttons..? Kinda sound familiar
Adriel: Oh.. I remember now, arent they also used for remotes..?
Joshua: yeahh not only that but in smartphones too
Jem: yes, tactile buttons are very useful when it comes to electronics
Erika: Alright, lets head deeper into our discussion.. Shall we?

Joshua: aaaaah yess, woops, I found that peeking through one of our epas packages that our
teacher provided
Jem: woah really, that’s so peculiar
Adriel: Well I guess our teacher wasn't just thinking of checking our assessment eii..,
Erika: you know what that means..
Jem: yAAAPAARI !! TREASUREMAP ADVENTURE TIMEE !!

LIBRARY

Erika: our first destination will be.. In

a library, oh and it says we should look
for the background info of this button.
Joshua: let me guess is it the tactile
one..?
Erika: yes.
Jem:: Oh I think I got it
Adriel: really, what does it say
History of the tactile switches
Switches of this type began as membrane or
screen-printed switches in the early 1980’s for
use in keyboards and keypads. Their lack of
tactile feedback and poor performance was
quickly met with resistance until the introduction
of devices with metal domes as part of the switch
design in the late 1980’s. The domed design
provided tactile feedback along with a more
robust method of actuation plus better longevity.
Today,

What are Tactile Switches?
A “tactile switch” is one type
of widely used switch that
completes an electrical circuit
typically when pressure is
applied to the device by the
user, which then gives the user
a perceptible “click” or haptic
bump in response, indicating Jem: I see, so that was the function of the tactile

Adriel: okay, so what are we going to find there
Erika: the map says look for the working principle of the tactile switch
GARDEN

Jem: Oh I think I got it..

Joshua: really..?
Jem: YEs !! because the title itself implies
The working principle of the tactile switch
• Firstly, he switch is used to supply input
signal to actuate a device or equipment.
It is designed with a small footprint
suited for mounting onto the surface of
printed circuit boards (PCB) made to
connect electronic components to form
electronic circuits.
• Secondly, tactile switches offer tactile
and auditory feedback to the operator,
confirming that the switch is engaged
and power is flowing to the circuit.
They also, as in the case of computer
keyboards, provide a fulfilling physical
The working principle of the tactile switch
• Thirdly, tactile switches typically
operate at lower power and current
ratings. This makes them less costly to
produce and better matched to low
voltage devices and systems. The lower
voltage also means less arcing at
contact points.
• Finally, with very few moving parts,
tactile switches typically last longer
than other mechanical switches. This
allows for their use directly mounted on
circuit boards, with less worry about
removal
Jem: Phew.. that was too many words for repair. It also means that, in
but yes,
that was it
Adriel: woow, I didnt even know that this kind of buttons have
so many advantages when it comes to circuit making
Joshua: indeed, It offer important and useful features that can
enhance the user perception of a product.
Adriel, Oh I think theres one more, Leader, do we still need to
read this ‘ how to to Wire a Tactile Switch’
Erika: Oh I forgot to say that part, anyways, yes, we also need
that part.
Joshua: okay then, give me that and I’ll read it for us,
How to Wire a Tactile Switch
Tactile switches typically contain 4 pins. These pins are
internally connected into 2 sets. The purpose of using 4
pins is to provide stability when the device is mounted on
a circuit board. When wiring, you technically only need to
use 2 of the leads, but it is best practice to use all of the
pins possible, while realizing that the pairs are connected
internally. Tactile switches are also available with just 2
pins. There are also 5-pin tactile switches available to
allow for joystick-like control in a very small package.

Jem: that was very useful, now, was that the last part,?

Erika: NO, not yet, We still need to go to our last destination, the classroom.
Adriel: Which classroom are we talking about.
CLASSROOM

Erika: it doesnt say it specifically on which one but I get the Idea that we need to
look for it in the epas classroom.
Joshua: hmm I think I know where that is, what do we need to do there
Erika: The map dictates that we should look for the applications of the tactile
buttons and how it can help to our current lives today.
Jem: I think where here, is this the one?
Erika: Nice, this is the classroom, we should go inside and start to look for the
objective.
Adriel: Everybody come look at this, I think this is the last piece were looking
for.
Joshua: NIce !! read it for us then.
Applications of Tactile switches
■ Tactile switches are used in operating units of
devices and equipment to enable setting of operating
modes and operating conditions as well as to start and
stop the operation. Devices and equipment include
temperature controller, air conditioning systems,
inverter control panels, and measuring instruments and
medical devices.
■ Tactile switches are used in control panels of devices
such as printers and multifunction printers to enable
Applications of Tactile switches
■ Stuff such as video game controllers use tactile switches that
allow you to control your games and characters within it. Television
remotes also use tactile switches for their buttons, as again each
press completes a different circuit, corresponds to a different
function, and transmits that function to the television through
infrared light and more recently Bluetooth connectivity.
■Tactile switches are used often in various electronic music
equipment such as keyboards and drum machines. These operate in
a similar way to computer keyboards, however, have enhanced
functionality to make it more suitable to play music on. Depending
Applications of Tactile switches
■Tactile switches were also used in both landline and mobile
phones for number buttons but has recently been phased out by
touch screens that can call tactile switches their ancestor.
■The use of tactile switches as buttons is so widespread in fact, that
the keyboard buttons used to write this article use tactile switches
Adriel: hey why do I always get the long paragraph
one.
Jem: ehehe, that okay, just look at the bright side atleast
were now aware of the useful characteristics of this
kind of buttons
Joshua: I agree, I was just today years old, when I
found out that the buttons I press in my consoles are
tactiles.
Jem: Me too, I found ou that my digital piano may have
the possibilities of using a tactile.
Erika: The keyboards we use to type for the script are
also using tactiles.
Adriel: yes, tactiles switches, indeed have a lot of uses
Joshua: so in conclusion, Tactile switches are an
intelligent choice when low-power, momentary action
power control or data input is required in a product, and
where tactile and auditory feedback is a desirable
feature. CUI Devices offers a line of tactile switches
featuring compact packages, a range of actuator
heights, and multiple configuration options.
Jem: Woah, How did you suddenly become a witty
talker? Eheh just kidding, anyways, I think that was it.

Erika: yea, That was all we needed, but before we continue, let us first break the
fourth-wall and ask our audiences with just, maybe 3 questions before we can
head onto to the surprise.
-Question Recitation-
Erika: Alright, here’s the first question..
What is the main functions of tactile buttons?

Good Job !! I guess you guys were listening the whole time, nice

On to our second question, what part is this in the tactile button?

And what is it for?

Well done. That is indeed the cover of the tactile switch

Final question, since we have already discussed to you the

applications of tactile switches, can you recall one of them, and
explain why it has such buttons?

Kudos !!, I guess all of you are ready for the surprise,
wonderful

Adriel: dont you guys worry its super easy even my little sister
can pull an A on that.
Joshua: just enter this quizziz code and we’ll wait until all of
you are in it.
Jem: Well DONE !! Im just going to take a screenshot of
your scores and submit it to our teacher, ms Cedo,
Erika: Nicely done !! folks now that we have reached the
end of our activity, let me tell you what happened next
to our story
Narrator pov: when the group finally found all the
missing pieces they finally obtained the treasure, what
was the treasure I hear you asking, well, I’ll leave it to
the audience to decide for that. Now that was all we have
to offer for today’s sync
Adriel: hope You guys learned a lot especially on our
topic
Joshua: make sure you carry a lesson you learned and put
in your pocket for safe keeping,
Jem: the Journey we had could have never been more fun
without you guys participating, ehe, thank you for
sticking by, Adios !!
