What’s the meaning of preference?
Preference is expression when you like something more than
something else.

There are two type of preference. That is general preference and

specific preference. General preference it means that preference
doesn’t have anything to do without specific time or moment in time.

General Preference
1 Prefer
The structure is:
• Subject + Prefer + to infinitive
• Subject + Prefer + Nouns + to + Nouns
• Subject + Prefer + Verb-ing + to + Verb-ing

Example:
• I prefer to go now
• My dad prefers pen to pencil
• They prefer swimming to running

2 Like
The structure is:
• Subject + Like + Nouns/Verb-ing
• Subject + Like + Noun + Better than + Noun
• Subject + Like + Verb-ing + Better than + Verb-ing

Example:
• I like singing a song
• They like coffee better than tea
• I like jogging better than running

Specific Preference
1 Would prefer = ‘D prefer
The structure is would prefer + infinitive
(and we use this to describe present and future preference)

I would prefer to go to London

Contracted form:
I’d prefer to go to London

The structure is:
• Subject + Would prefer + to infinitive + rather than + infinitive
• Subject + Would prefer + to infinitive + nouns + Rather than + infinitive
+ Nouns

Example:
• They would prefer to sing rather than dance
• You’d prefer to play ball rather than take a sleep

We use “would rather” to describe a preference of one thing compare to
another thing.
