INDUSTRIAL

INTERNSHIP
MEE3009

INTRODUCTIO
N
As per the syllabus of the “Industrial Internship” course (code:
MEE3099), the internship was for a period of four weeks. The
company has units across Telangana . Since the lockdown was
activated, the major part of the internship was done in Online mode
as practical sessions were Limited.
ABOUT THE COMPANY

Spacetek industries was established in 1998 by Mr. Hussain Peeran, its current

chairman to design and manufacture components for defence and other

industries. Over the years, the company has progressed by focussing on

engineering excellence and customer centric approach to requirements. The

company’s main aim is to design components based on client’s requirement and

manufacture them with precision using state of the art manufacturing tools.
Work Experience
My internship was like a complete package for getting to know how a
factory works. I did my training in all the departments which were there
at Spacetek industries. Starting from HR so that I could gel up with the
company environment and then I got into technical departments like
design, production, sales, purchase, quality assurance and assembly
department. I learned their flow model following the latest ISO
procedures of working in at a company. During the internship I got to
know about new CNC Machines and I also learned how the design
department uses the CAD software for their application. Later on, I
learned some machining processes, assembling of machine parts and
managing the work to complete the target on time.
CMM Machine
A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a device that measures the
geometry of physical objects by sensing discrete points on the surface of the
object with a probe. Various types of probes are used in CMMs, including
mechanical, optical, laser, and white light. Depending on the machine, the
probe position may be manually controlled by an operator or it may be
computer controlled. CMMs typically specify a probe's position in terms of
its displacement from a reference position in a three-dimensional Cartesian
coordinate system (i.e., with XYZ axes). In addition to moving the probe
along the X, Y, and Z axes, many machines also allow the probe angle to be
controlled to allow measurement of surfaces that would otherwise be
unreachable.
CNC Milling

Milling is a cutting process that uses a milling cutter to remove material from the
surface of a work piece. The milling cutter is a rotary cutting tool, often with multiple
cutting points. As opposed to drilling, where the tool is advanced along its rotation axis,
the cutter in milling is usually moved perpendicular to its axis so that cutting occurs on
the circumference of the cutter. As the milling cutter enters the work piece, the cutting
edges (flutes or teeth) of the tool repeatedly cut into and exit from the material, shaving
off chips (swarf) from the work piece with each pass. The cutting action is shear
deformation; material is pushed off the work piece in tiny clumps that hang together to
a greater or lesser extent (depending on the material) to form chips.

EDM WIRE CUTTING

Electrical discharge machining (EDM), also known as spark machining, spark

eroding, die sinking, wire burning or wire erosion, is a metal fabrication process
whereby a desired shape is obtained by using electrical discharges
(sparks).Material is removed from the work piece by a series of rapidly recurring
current discharges between two electrodes, separated by a dielectric liquid and
subject to an electric voltage. One of the electrodes is called the tool-electrode,
or simply the tool or electrode, while the other is called the workpiece-electrode,
or work piece. The process depends upon the tool and work piece not making
physical contact.
CNC Lathe

CNC horizontal lathe machining is performed using horizontally-configured lathes.

These machines rotate a workpiece cylindrically, like a rotisserie chicken, while tooling
shapes the piece by cutting away excess materials. Because the workpieces have to lie
vertically, horizontal lathe machines tend to have a larger footprint or amount of total
space that they take up, making them best reserved for use on smaller or midsize
workpieces. Similarly, because the chuck on these machines hold the work piece
vertically, against the natural gravitational downward pull of the object, these machines
are best used for lighter materials, or else you run the risk of damaging the chuck.
CAD Modelling
In the design department, all the designs like assembly drawing, change part
design for in-house machining, drawings for outsourcing are made using
Draftsight and Solidworks.

Designing for other work like welding and plasma or water jet cutting was
also done if the client requested.
