HOW ENERGY IS BEING HARNESSED FROM

DIFFERENT SOURCE

BIOGAS
WHAT IS BIOGAS?
 A biogas, also known as biofuel, is the gas produced from the breakdown of organic matter, or
biomass.
 A biogas plant takes in biological matter and decomposes it to yield useful gas. This is use to
recycle waste from homes, restaurants, farms, and other places, providing an alternative source of
gas for various uses. Biogas plants use a simple process to turn biomaterials to gas. Since biogas is
derived from decomposed matter, the production of biogas is completed in sealed barrels and
special vessels.
 A Beginners Guide Biogas is a type of biofuel that is naturally produced from the decomposition
of organic waste. When organic matter, such as food scraps and animal waste, break down in an
anaerobic environment (an environment absent of oxygen) they release a blend of gases, primarily
methane and carbon dioxide. Because this decomposition happens in an anaerobic environment,
the process of producing biogas is also known as anaerobic digestion.
 Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure,
municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste. Biogas is a
renewable energy source. ... It can also be used in a gas engine to convert the energy
in the gas into electricity and heat.
 Biogas is made in a biogas digester. We call it a digester because it is a large tank
filled with bacteria that eats (or digests) organic waste and gives a flammable gas,
called biogas. The bacteria in the biogas digester need to be cared for like you would
care for an animal. If the bacteria have too much or too little food they get sick. You
must feed the bacteria every day with a mixture of food waste and water. In addition
to biogas, the Gesi systems make waste water that is rich in nutrients. This water
may be poured over your plants to help them grow.
HOW BIOGAS WORKS
 Biogas is a clean and renewable fuel (similar to LPG) that you can make yourself.
You will be able to cook all of your normal meals with it.
 Biogas systems make use of a relatively simple, well-known, and mature technology.
The main part of a biogas system is a large tank, or digester. Inside this tank, bacteria
convert organic waste into methane gas through the process of anaerobic digestion.
Each day, the operator of a biogas system feeds the digester with household by-
products such as market waste, kitchen waste, and manure from livestock. The
methane gas produced inside biogas system may be used for cooking, lighting, and
other energy needs. Waste that has been fully digested exits the biogas system in the
form of organic fertilizer.
PROCESS FLOW
 Biogas is another bio-based technology that harnesses natural sources and
processes to produce renewable energy. Animal wastes such as cow manure
naturally give off methane as they breakdown. Animal wastes can be processed
in an anaerobic digester, producing biogas, containing methane, which is used to
power modified natural gas engines and generate electricity. The process also
improves the fertilizer potential of the manure, too!

 Anaerobic digestion is the process by which organic matter such as animal or

food waste is broken down to produce biogas and biofertiliser. This process
happens in the absence of oxygen in a sealed, oxygen-free tank called an
anaerobic digester.
