 The Internet carries a vast array of information resources and
services, most notably the inter-linked hypertext documents of the
World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic
mail.

WHEN?

computer networks as well as private research.

Popular Operating Software:

 Internet explorer
 Mozilla Firefox
INDIA AND INTERNET

 There was limited Internet access but only in a few major cities, all
in the hands of the government.
BSNL - Responsible for Internet activities.
DOT (Department of Telecommunications) provided a connectivity,

with miserly bandwidth and few phone lines.

INTRA-ORGANISATIONAL
E-COMMERCE(B2E)
• E-commerce :describes the process of buying, selling,
transferring, or exchanging products, services, and/or

category that includes all internal activities of organization
which involves the exchange of goods, services, or information
among various units and individuals in an organization itself.
INTRA-ORGANIZATIONAL
E-COMMERCE(B2E)

provide products and/or services to their employees.
 Companies generally use B2E networks to automate
employee-related corporate processes.
 B2E portal is a customized home page or desktop for
everyone within an organization
◦ One URL for everyone in the organization
◦ A mixture of organization-specific and employee-defined
components
◦ The potential to be customized and altered to suit the
needs of a particular employee
Examples of B2E applications:

 Corporate announcements
 Online supply requests
 Special employee offers
 Maintain employee resume
 Update employee records
Use of Intranet in B2E E-
commerce
 Intranets are corporate networks that utilize the internet
technology but limit access to the internal members of
an organization.
 Typically, they are built by securing it from the global
Internet through a firewall that limits access to
internal/authorized members only.
 Internal computer network that supports Internet
applications qualifies to be called an Intranet.
 Typically, Intranets use TCP/IP connectivity and a HTTP
server (Web server).
 Through Standard web browser users can tap into
corporate legacy data, share applications and
publications.
ADVANTAGES OF INTRA-
ORGANIZATIONAL E-COMMERCE
Intranet Offers following advantages:

1)Platform Independent and Portable Access

platform.
 Regardless of the type of platform the up-to-date
information can accessed from a common interface often
based on Web browser.

2)Business to Employee (B2E) services

 Used for implementing improved Employee Relationship
Management initiatives. B2E applications offer employees
self service capability on much of the human resource
functions.

ORGANIZATIONAL E-COMMERCE (Cont.)

across the organization. This expands the
information available for decision-makers

employees using e-mail, videoconferencing, and bulletin

organize publication, and disseminate human resources
manuals, product specifications, meeting minutes and
company announcements.
