INTRODUCTION
Kohinoor square has main skyscraper about 52 floors 203 meters (666 ft), and the residential skyscraper is about 35 floors 142
meters (466 ft). The first five floors of the main building will be used for a high-end shopping mall, and the remaining 47 floors
of the main building will be utilized for a five-star hotel and commercial offices located on the land previously owned by
Kohinoor Mills in Shivaji Park, Mumbai, India. It is one of the first skyscrapers in India to achieve a LEED (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design) gold rating for environmental sustainability. The Kohinoor Square complex comprises a main
skyscraper and a residential skyscraper which are for mixed use. Houses, hotels, residences and a high-end shopping malls are
being constructed by Kohinoor CTNL Infrastructure Corporation. The building is one of the tallest mixed-use buildings in India,
as well as one of the tallest in South Asia as of 2013.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE LIVE CASE STUDY

• Kohinoor square is one of the first Skyscraper in India to achieve a LEED
gold rating for environment sustainability.
• Kohinoor square helps me in understanding the Indian context of mixed-use
development.
• It helps me in understanding about structural system that can be used in
high rise buildings.
• This building will help me gain knowledge about Eco-friendly design features.
• Understanding the use of vertical transportation system of high-rise
structure.
ABOUT ARCHITECTURE FIRM -
SSA Architects (officially known as Sandeep Shikre & Associate Pvt, Ltd.) is a professional services firm
headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India which provides engineering, design, planning,
Architectural and consulting services for all aspects of the built environment. The firm is present India
with three offices located in Mumbai, Pune, and Bangalore has more than 310 staff based in the two
offices. SSA Architect has participated in over 125 projects in past 27 years.

ARCHITECT'S DESIGN PRINCIPLE FOR THIS PROJECT -

Hierarchy (one of the architecture principles) is about understanding why some parts are emphasized and carry more visual
weight than other elements. By using those elements it creates balanced or unbalanced structure, depending upon the overall
design. The hierarchy in architecture is most often established using unique shape, size, color, or strategic location or
placement. By following this designed element or form will be easily noticeable from the overall design which is aesthetically
emphasized by an architect for the overall design of the building. In Kohinoor square the main office building is great example
emphasizing the hierarchy in architecture.
CONCEPT -
• Koh-i-Noor is the most famous and beautiful diamond in the world, and the meaning of Koh-i-noor is “Mountain of Light”.
Because "KOH" means "Mountain" and "Noor" means "light".
• Diamond concept provides feature which reduce the release of air pollutants to external environment, While making
provision to exceptional indoor air quality
• Implementing effective and inventive sustainable concept.

CLIMATIC ZONE –
Mumbai has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate (Aw)
under the Köppen climate classification, with eight months of dryness and peak
of rains in June. The cooler season from December to February is followed by
the hotter season from March to May. The period from June to about the end of
September constitutes the south-west monsoon season, and October and
November form the post-monsoon season. Flooding during monsoon is a major
problem for Mumbai. Between June and September, the south west monsoon
rains lash the city.

FOUNDATION –
The combined pile raft foundation is a geotechnical composite Construction that
combines the bearing effect of both foundation elements raft and Piles by taking
into account interactions between the foundation elements and the Subsoil the piled
raft foundation system has recently been widely used for many structures, especially
high rise buildings. In this foundation, the piles play an important role in settlement
and differential settlement reduction, and thus can lead to economical design
without compromising the safety of the structure. In several design cases, the piles
are allowed to yield under the design load. Although the load capacity of the pile is
exceeded, the piled raft foundation can hold additional loads with controllable
settlement.
