INTRODUCTION:

• Palm vein tecnology is the upcoming technology in this world

and is the world’s first contactless personal identification
system .

• Palm vein authentication is a vein pattern authentication

technology that uses palm veins as the biometric feature.
HISTORY:

• Palm vein scanners first appeared in the 1980s, introduced by Joe

Rice from Kodak company in response to his bank cards and
identity being stolen.

• Fujitsu, a Japanese multinational information technology

equipment and services company, is researching and developing
biometric authentication technology .

• Focusing on four methods : fingerprints, faces, voiceprints, and

palm veins, because of its high accuracy.
WORKING:
• Palm vein scan is a biometric method that works by using
infrared light to map the unique vein structure of your palm,
capturing over 5 million data points.

• One should place his/her palm near to scanner.

• The scanner make use of a special characteristic of the

reduced hemoglobin coursing through the palm veins it
absorbs near-infrared light.
• This makes it possible to take a snapshot of what's beneath
the outer skin, something very hard to read or steal.

• The integrated optical system in the palm vein sensor uses

this phenomenon to generate an image of the palm vein
pattern and the generated image is digitized, encrypted and
finally stored as a registered template in the database.
ADVANTAGES:
• Very economical.
• High factor of security.
• One time registry and usage throughout the life.
• Very fast that it scans the palm in 2.18 sec.
• Forgery of vein scanner is imposible.
• No more problems og forgetting passwords and ID’s.
DISADVANTAGES:
• Can be highly-priced compared to the earlier technologies.

• Some health factors such as fevers can affect the quality of the
image.

• Small database compared to the earlier personal identification

technologies
APPLICATIONS:
• ATM’s.
• Personal Computers & Laptops.
• In Hospitals & Libraries.
• Banks.
• Home appliances.
• Laboratories where high security
is maintained.
CONCLUSION:
• Usage of this technology gives accurate results.

• It can be used in several organisations to increase security.

• If this technology is introduced in our country we can solve

many problems such as password theft, in ATM, security in
various fields.

• Surely this biometric technology will bring a revolution in the

field of science and technology in the near future.
