‡ Isometric drawings simulate a 3D object from a particular viewpoint

by aligning along three major axes. It is a two dimensional
representation of a three dimensional drawing in a 2D plane

Vertical axis

Left horizontal axis Right horizontal axis

Isometric Axes and Planes
hen drawing an isometric drawing, the horizontal
object lines are drawn along or parallel to the horizontal
axis. Similarly the vertical lines are drawn along or
parallel to the vertical axis.
If the snap angle is 0, the axes of the isometric planes are 30
degrees, 90 degrees, and 150 degrees. Once you set the snap
style to Isometric, you can work on any of three planes, each
with an associated pair of axes:
2ï Aligns snap and grid along 90- and 150-degree axes.
2è Aligns snap and grid along 30- and 150-degree axes.
2 Aligns snap and grid along 30- and 90-degree axes.
Angles do not appear true in isometric drawing
Isometric drawings have m
:
‡Isoplane right (P0,P4,P10,P6)
‡Isoplane top (P6,P10,P9,P7)
‡Isoplane left (P0,P6,P7,P8)
hoosing one of the three isometric planes causes Ortho and
the crosshairs to be aligned along the corresponding isometric
axes. For example, when Ortho is on, the points you specify
align along the simulated plane you are drawing on. Therefore,
you can draw the top plane, switch to the left plane to draw
another side, and switch to the right plane to complete the
drawing.
Setting the isometric grid and snap

Îm
 ommand: SNAP
Specify snap spacing or [ON/OFF/Aspect/Rotate/Style/Type] <0.5000>:
Enter snap grid style [Standard/Isometric] <S>:
Specify vertical spacing <0.5000>: o

Îm
Set isometric grid and snap by using am
mm
dialog box, invoked by entering
a at command prompt, or
1. From the Tools menu, choose Drafting
Settings.
2. In the Drafting Settings dialog box, on the
Snap and Grid tab under Snap Type &
Style, select Isometric Snap.
3.  hoose OK.

To draw:
1. Draw bottom left
3
face 4
2. Draw bottom right
4
face 3
3. Draw top face
1 2
4. Draw remaining
lines.

Note: Oblique surfaces (line 4) have to be

drawn by locating the endpoints of the lines
that define the oblique surface, and then
draw the lines between the points.

To draw an isometric circle
1. From the Tools menu, choose Drafting Settings.
2. On the Snap and Grid tab, under Snap Type and
Style, turn on the isometric snap and choose OK.
3. From the Draw menu, choose Ellipse > Axis, End.
4. Enter i (Isocircle).
5. Specify the center of the circle.
6. Specify the radius or diameter of the circle.
Or «
wse the ellipse command and then select the I
  (I)
option. Before entering the radius/diameter info, be sure
that you are in the required isoplane. wse F5 to toggle
between isoplane. You can also set the isoplane before
entering command.
Eg:
 ommand: <Isoplane Right>
 ommand:
Specify axis endpoint of ellipse or [Arc/ enter/Isocircle]:
Specify center of isocircle:

Specify radius of isocircle or [Diameter]:
