AND ITS LEARNING

PRESENTED BY: FAJR MURTAZA
The year of grief

• This year was one of great grief for the

Prophet  as it witnessed
•  The death of Abu-Taleb.
•  The death of Khadijah (RA).
Who was Abu Talib?

•  He welcomed him in his house at the death of his father, and brought him up, fulfilling his father’s
will, with great affection preferring him to all of his children.
•  He used to protect him from Quraysh
•  He said to him, “Go and say what you have to say, I am by your side”.
•  He recommended him to sleep in a different bed each night in case he was attacked, when they were
under siege.
Who was Hazrat Khadija (RA).

• In Ramadan of the tenth year of

Muhammad (PBUH)’s prophethood,
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid was
chosen by Allah to return to Him.

 The woman who had, for twenty-

five years, been the love of his life,
the intellectual match to his sharp
mind,
 The spiritual counterpart to his
heart full of faith,
 The one whom he held and who
held him in turn, and the mother of
his children.
The Year of Grief,
continued…

• Prophet Muhammad pbuh was very

much distressed after the death of
Abu Talib and Khadija RA. That year
was considered as “THE YEAR OF
GRIEF/SORROW [‫لحزن‬99‫ ا‬9‫ام‬9‫ع‬/ Ām al-
Ḥuzn]”. When these two beloved
personalities were lost. These painful
events took place within a short lapse
of time and added a lot to his grief
and suffering. The Prophet pbuh lost
all hopes of bringing the people of
Makkah back to the right path, so he
set out for Al-Ta’if, seeking a
supportive atmosphere.
Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) Mission to AL-Taif:

• The place of Makkah turned out to

be a fruitless land for Islam.
Hence, the Prophet pbuh decided
to approach the people of the
neighbouring city of Makkah-
Taif, with great concern. Zayd ibn
Harithah RA- prophet’s adopted
son only accompanied him on the
journey to Taif. Taif was
approximately 80 km yet, the
Prophet pbuh accomplished this
journey up the rocky path with
high hopes.
Cruel Behaviour of Leaders of AL-Taif:

 It took them 4 days to reach AL-Taif.

 He went directly to the 3 leaders of Taif because he wanted their protection
 But the leader of Taif treated him unruly and ridiculed his message and also ordered the slaves,
residents as well as the children there to scorn and physically harm the Prophet pbuh.
 They pelted the beloved Messenger pbuh with stones making him literally run to escape from Taif.
Beautiful Narration from
Aisha R.A (Hadith 4:454)
Hazrat Aisha R.A asked the Prophet , 'Have you encountered
a day harder than the day of the battle) of Uhud?"
The Prophet replied, "Your tribes have troubled me a lot, and
the worse trouble was the trouble on the day of 'Aqaba when
I presented myself to Ibn 'Abd-Yalail bin 'Abd-Kulal and he
did not respond to my demand  So I departed, overwhelmed
with excessive sorrow, and proceeded on, and could not relax
till I found myself at Qarnath-Tha-alib…”

And this is where he sat down, raised his hands and
started to perform dua'a. It was not a dua'a in the
regular sense, but rather confiding in Allah saying,
Learning Points from the Story of Taif:

• Here are some of the lessons learnt from this occasion

 People won’t always act as they seem to.
 Do not treat people the way they treat you.
 You have to be patient when preaching the truth.
 Bigger the assignment, the more you need to be patient and hard working.
 Pain and Pleasure are temporary as well as must.
 The concept of Grace and Disgrace in the eyes of Allah are different from those that people
have.
