Slide 3
C-BUS SYSTEM OVERVIEW

An intelligent wiring system, which establishes the

platform for the total integration of electrical services in
any building.

Distributed Intelligence
•Each module is an intelligent unit, consisting of a
microprocessor, non volatile memory and resident software.
•Every device has a unique physical address.
•Each module is individually programmable over the C-Bus
network.
•Each module is individually identifiable over the C-Bus
network.

Prepared By CIS Hong Kong

Slide 4
C-BUS SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Modules Connection
•Each module is connected to the C-Bus network in parallel via an
unshielded twisted pair cable.
•The cable supplies 36vdc to C-Bus modules to operate and provides
a medium for data transfer between C-Bus modules.

C-BUS PRODUCT OVERVIEW

C-Bus Inputs
• Input modules are those which issue commands to the C-Bus network.
• Respond to certain stimuli, such as; touch, movement and temperature.
• C-bus input units are available in both British and American standards .

Slide 15
C-BUS PRODUCT OVERVIEW

C-Bus Outputs
• Output modules are those which respond to commands issued
from input units to switch the electrical loads.
• Voltages – 220VAC (British), 110VAC (American).
• Dimmers and relays are available in many different configurations
depending on number of channels and rating of channels to suit
different application.

Slide 17
C-BUS CABLING OVERVIEW

• C-Bus network is made up of unshielded twisted pair (UTP)

or Cat 5 cable that operates at an extra low voltage of 36
Vdc, isolated from the 220Vac mains
• 36VDC SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage)

• Up to 100 devices per network

• Total Cat 5 cable length of up to 1000 m

SYSTEMS INTEGRATION - INTELLIGENT BUILDINGS

1. Many different “SUB SYSTEMS”, all of which are standalone and

independently controllable.
2. All “SUB SYSTEMS” must be capable of being interfaced into other
systems or a single “USER INTERFACE”
