What Is COVID-19?

What is Corona virus?

Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that
cause illness ranging from the common cold to more
severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory
Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome (SARS-CoV).
What is Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)?
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered
in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans.

Corona viruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between

animals and people.  Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV
was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from
dromedary camels to humans. Several known corona viruses are
circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.
Epidemiology of Corona Virus
Corona viruses are important human and animal pathogens. At the end
of 2019, a novel corona virus was identified as the cause of a
cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, a city in the Hubei Province
of China. It rapidly spread, resulting in an epidemic throughout
China, followed by a global pandemic. In February 2020, the World
Health Organization designated the disease COVID-19, which
stands for corona virus disease 2019. The virus that causes COVID-
19 is designated severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2
(SARS-CoV-2); previously, it was referred to as 2019-nCoV.
Transmission of Covid-19
The virus can lead to:
  Pneumonia
 Respiratory failure
 Heart problems
 Liver problems
  Septic shock
 Death
Incubation Period
On average, symptoms showed up in the newly infected
person about 5.6 days after contact. Rarely, symptoms
appeared as soon as 2 days after exposure. Most people
with symptoms had them by day 12. And most of the
other ill people were sick by day 14. In rare cases,
symptoms can show up after 14 days.
