What types of technology do
you use everyday?
2
Transmit
▪ To pass something from one place to another.
3
Analog
❏ Analog Technology
❏ Uses or records a wave at its original form
❏ Example:
❏ Analog Tape Recorder
❏ Record Player
❏ Radio
4
How does a tape recorder use analog
technology?
1. A signal is taken straight from the microphone and
laid onto a tape.
2. The wave from the microphone is an analog wave
(Making the wave on the tape is also analog).
3. This wave on the tape can now be read, amplified,
and sent to a speaker to produce sound.
5
Digital
▪ Digital Technology- Transmits information in the form
of a digital signal (Binary Code).
▫ 0 (Current Off)
▫ 1(Current On)
▫ Small pulse of the electromagnetic carrier wave
6
Digital Technology
▪ Examples:
▫ CD
▫ Iphone
▫ Chromebook
7
Advantages of Digital Technology
▪ Durability: The recording does not degrade over time. As
long as the numbers can be read, you will always get
exactly the same wave.
8
Advantages of Digital Technology
Better Quality: Can send more information at one
time than through analog signal

Scenario
During last Saturday’s South Carolina football game Mr. S
was so excited that UofSC was winning that he accidentally
knocked over his analog tv and broke it. If
Mr. S wants to watch football next Saturday he is going to have
to buy another tv. Should Mr.S buy another analog tv or a digital
tv?
10
Prompt
Write a scientific explanation that describes why Mr.S
should buy a television that uses a digital signal over ones
that use an analog signal.
