HOW TO CONTROL POLLUTION

FROM ODOR, GREASE, LAKE, POND
AND LAGOON ALGAE

WHAT IS ALGAE?

 Algae are simple, autotrophic organisms that can

synthesize their own food by means of
photosynthesis.
 Algae are mostly aquatic and lack true roots, stem
and leaves.
 The size of algae may range from few micrometers
to several meters
TYPES OF ALGAE
DIFFERENT TYPES, NAMELY,
 Blue green algae (BGA)
 Green algae
 Red algae
 Brown algae.
BLUE GREEN ALGAE (BGA)
 BGA referred to as cyanobacteria, are the
simplest forms of algae.
 Blue green in color, ranging from single-
celled organization to colonial forms.
 BGA are considered to be an intermediate
between bacteria and plants.
 BGA lack specialized organelles, they
photosynthesize directly through the
cytoplasm.
 Generally indicates poor water quality with
high levels of phosphates and nitrates.
GREEN ALGAE
 Green algae, belonging to
the phylum Chlorophyta.
 The main food is starch.
 About 7000 species of
green algae are identified.
 Most of them are
freshwater algae, while a
few species are found in
the marine water.
RED ALGAE
 Red algae, belonging to Rhodophyta,
contain chlorophyll a, d, carotenoids,
xanthophylls and phycobilins.
 The main food reserve is floridean
starch.
 Majority of red algae are marine species.
 More than 6500 species of red algae
have been identified, out of which about
200 are freshwater species
BROWN ALGAE.
 Brown algae, belonging to the
class Paeophyceae, contain
chlorophyll a, c and fucoxanthin
pigment.
 typical greenish-brown coloration.
The food reserve of brown algae
are complex carbohydrate
polymers, called laminarin.
 Similar to red algae, majority of
these algal group are adapted in
marine water.
 It usually grows on the gravel and
glass.
WHY BE CONCERNED ABOUT
BLUE-GREEN ALGAE?
 Blue-green algae produce  Blooms generally have
natural toxins or poisons. the following properties:
 Dead algae and break  Water may appear cloudy
down, toxins can be and look like thick pea
released into the water. soup.
 If animals ingest the toxin,  Blooms are generally
they can be quickly green or blue-green in
paralyzed and die. Signs color, although they can be
of poisoning include brown or purple.
weakness, staggering,  A thick mat or foam may
difficulty breathing, form when a bloom
convulsions and death. washes onto shore.
WHAT IS ENZYME??
It is a protein.
It is a hydrolytic organic Catalysts.
It is a bioaugumentation.
It speeds up various biochemical reaction without
changing properties.
It produced by the genus of micro-organisms ( Bacillus)
HOW TO TREAT ALGAE?
 The first way is to address the problem of
nutrient overload. One should ask:
 Why are there too many nutrients in the water?
 What can I do to reduce the nutrients entering the
water?

 The second way is to plant heavy feeding

aquatic species.
HOW TO ELIMINATE THE
ALGAE?
 Chemical:
 Chemical treatments can be effective. Most all of these types
of treatments are an inorganic Copper Sulfate, a heavy metal.
Heavy metals are not good for people, plants, or animals.
 Mechanical:
 Time consuming, never-ending work involved.
 Biological treatment:
 Biological treatments are the safest eco-friendly approaches
when dealing with nuisance weeds and have been the premier
choice of method among professional, state and park
managers.
ADVANTAGE USE ENZYME PRODUCTS

Harmless to pipe and trap.

Will not damage biological treatment system.
Destabilize pH and aerobic system.
As a catalytic and continue to act after initial use.
Nonpcaustic and non-poisonous to pets and fish.
Enviromentally safe, and can start multiplying and
processing more difestive enzymes within system.
REACTION BETWEEN ENZYME AND
BOD & COD

Enzyme can help wastewater treatment system reach

high treatment efficiency to eliminate BOD as rapidly
as possible from a waste water flow.
Relative small volume as a seed to catalytic
microorganism performance to reduce BOD (89%), SS
(86%), detention time, and sludge volume (40%).
